Im not talking about alteration or any cutting off the image i'm talking about before they start filiming. If it's shot in scope ratio then it has to be black bars but whats wrong with 1:78 if it's going to give people the full screen of there tv's?

Oh my god check out the philips 56" 21:9 cinema tv £3500 you get full screen with scope ratio ,that is the answer.

16:9 is considered the best compromise to display material of all common aspect ratios. If you had a 21:9 screen, you'd have to see 16:9 stuff pillarboxed (or cropped, or stretched). And if you like old films, 4:3 will look ridiculous on that screen.

It would be good to see what those ratios would look like then on the 21.9's especially 1:85 as most 80's movies are that ratio and i have about 10.Probably not very good from what people have been saying.

I, for one, do NOT want the image to fill my HDTV screen - I want to see movies and TV series in the aspect ratio in which they were originally shot and shown.

In fact one of the major peeves for me with my Sony Bravia is the automatic overscan - it only takes away about 5% from the whole image (by overscanning on all 4 sides). Yet I have to constantly adjust that manually.

Panasonic was extensively involved in the R&D on the 3D. A lot of the post and on-set display tools

I cant stand movies that are not in 2.35 ratio. I love my scope setup. Its so much easier on the eyes to go wider.
