Not really, because if I was picking up a 3DTV in the next 5 years, chances are by then there will be loads of content, including this movie, which will probably have a 3D version released in 2011. I hardly feel 'short changed' as you put it. Your expectations of having loads of content released the same year as the actual hardware was released is by far expecting too much. Standard 2D BD was released, what almost 4-5 years ago at this point, and we still haven't even seen a majority of the most popular catalog titles, why would 3D be any different in terms of amount of titles available during its infancy period?

I certainly wasn't expecting every 3D catalog movie ever made avalible on 3D Blu-Ray in 2010. However I do expect NEW 3D movies to be released that way. How to Train Your Dragon already exsists in 3D the work converting the movie is done. All Im asking for is to slap that work on a Blu-Ray for the new standard. Why double dip? Why wait till 2011? What good reason is there to do so except to cheat people out of there money and sell uninformed consumers a substandard product. I can't think of a single good reason not too and I don't understand why people are defending a studio for dropping a very important feature for absolutely no reason.

I don't think that expecting them to release a movie that was 3D in theaters on blu-ray in 3D is asking too much at all. I think that not releasing 3D movies day and date with their 2D releases is slowing down the adoption of 3D in the home. Only having 3D movies available for bundle packages is poor marketing IMO. They should all be availble to the general public for sale. Even still there would be less than a dozen titles available in 3D. The technology is in it's infancy, but they aren't approaching 3D very smartly IMO.

I do agree with you, and in no way am I defending the marketing practices of studios, however, perhaps the studios were not expecting the consumer to adopt 3D perhaps as quickly as has happened in some markets. The reason they signed the 'bundle agreement' may be because they were focusing on 2010 being the year that 3D broke into the marketplace and their attempt to get people to convert. Obviously, in hind sight, the studios may regret this decision to only allow sales of these movies in bundle packages because those who have adopted are currently experiencing a bit of a content shortage. I highly doubt the studios were expecting it to do as well as it possibly has, or at least to have as many consumers as they do who are really into the concept. I do agree and understand with you that this may hurt 3D sales currently, but pre-2010 it may have been a smart move by the studios. 3D in terms of home theater, has never been successful in the past, and perhaps the studios were 'testing the waters' with these bundle packages before committing fully to 3D and releasing all available titles to 3D. I really disagree with Jimmy though that the studios did it this way in an effort to get people to double dip to 'make more money.' No way, I don't buy it.

Anyways, back to your regular scheduled programming: How To Train Your Dragon BD release!!

This has been answered numerous times, at this point they do not have a choice if they signed an agreement for the calendar year of 2010 with other companies to bundle, or package these products with other products.

When Monsters vs Aliens was first released in 2009 on Blu-Ray Dreamworks apparently considered a 3D version but eventually scrapped it before release releasing the movie in 2D only. Dreamworks justified doing so based on the inadequacy of anaglyph technology. If you read the comments section you will see I defended them back then and think they made the right decision. They said this one year ago which is interesting.

"Dreamworks Animation has said it may consider an eventual 3-D release in the future, if and when specifications for 3-D on BD are finalized and compatible hardware is available so that a home video release can replicate “more faithfully” the theatrical 3-D experience."

Well Dreamworks that day has came and now a 3D format exsists that can faithfully replicate the theatrical 3D experiance. Yet you do this to us. FOR SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. This actually isn't the first time that a Dreamworks movie has been released on Blu-ray/DVD on a Friday.

Works for me, I usually go to the store on Fridays anyway, I'll just get it when I'm there.

I'll just wait for UPS to deliver it to my door since I ordered the combo pack from Amazon when they first put it up for pre-order and had the $18.99 price tag.

I'll be waiting impatiently at Wal-Mart at midnight on October 15th . This is probably my favorite movie of all time. I've watched it 43 times so far, and will keep seeing it until the last day it's playing in theaters.

Seriously, there are probably some things best kept to yourself. Seeing this movie 43 times and proclaiming it as your favorite movie ever is probably one of them.

*Note that I did like the movie and will be picking it up. I however, have only seen it once.

My record for seeing a movie a number of times in theatres is 11, no idea how someone could see a movie 43 times.
