Good news for the Blu! I hope that this keeps up for the rest of the year, as many have stated defore me.

Here's a story for you: My brother-in-law bought one of those $98.00 HD-DUD players. Went on and on about it over Thanksgving while he and my sis were visiting here in B'ham. Then I showed him Cars, the Rat, and 2001 on my PS3...

He bought a 60gig PS3 @ Best Buy on Black Friday and 10 Blurays!

I asked him what he was going to do with is A2 player: "Collect dust" was his reply.

You gotta love that type of reaction to Blu!

Kind of proves the artice from about 2 months ago talking about HDM in gereral. That listed Best Buy as number 1 with all other lagging well behind.

Remember the article or blog that said Toshiba told the Weinsteins that Warner would be switching to HD DVD exclusively after the beginning of the year? As I said before, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody from Toshiba did claim that (just like many athletes claim they are going to win some game). But I bet they didn't expect to get trounced like that during Black Friday week either. It is now up to them to turn it around (and of course for the Blu-ray camp to try to slam the door completely on them). I do expect the HD DVD camp to try some more things over the next few weeks, so the Blu-ray side still needs to stay on their toes.

We have it at mine too, since it's the same price as the 80gb you get a free game and bd if you buy one.

I was able to buy one at BB and return it, but they let me keep the Rebate receipt which allowed me to get the 5 free BDs offer.

Walmart doesn't even sell close to 40% of highdef discs. more like 10%. Best buy probably has 40% of the bd/hddvd market

can anybody confirm that the number stated in blu-ray.com article about black friday sales (72%) is this week's figure that is supposed to come out today?

at this point in the game, walmart likely sells less then 2% of HD Discs. Most walmarts have about 30 movies in total. They dont hold a candle to the likes of Best Buy, Frys, and Circuit City.

B = HDM percentage at Best Buy
A = HDM percentage at amazon
W = HDM percentage at Wal-Mart
C = HDM percentage at Circuit City
T = HDM percentage at Target
O = HDM percentage at other retailers

B + A + W + C + T + O = 100

B >> A > W > C > T

I really don't believe that when someone is about to make a major purchase of a 1080p HDTV and a Hi Def player such as a Blu-ray, they'd think of going into a Wal-Mart. (Even a Target that I go to regularly didn't have a single HDTV that was better than 780p a couple months back.)

So, they might buy a nicely discounted PS3 or S300 and get some free movies along with it, or a cheap HD player with a bunch of free movies in and out of the box, from a Wal-Mart. But buying regular priced Blu-ray or HD movies there on a consistent basis? I doubt it.

I think there's not only the math, but also a certain logic, behind your numbers above regarding Wal-Mart and how much of an impact they actually have on the high end, Hi Def market, at this time.

They will very likely be a confirmation of what we now already know. But still we can see the other charts and look for YTD and SI numbers, which could have ticked up a point or so because of this, and previously good numbers.

This is High Def Media we're dealing with, not DVD.

Not for a weekly number, but YES for the YTD and SI numbers. As well as the top HD sellers for the week, and the related percentages
