I believe it is the mini rack situation thats creating heat from all the electronics and the PS3 is trying to cool off so extra speed on the fans. I also set my PS3 on an enclosed rack and when I'm playing BD or games it gets a little loud esp. if the temperature in the room is warm but if I take it out and stand it vertically letting more air flow than it is quiet.
