"With 750,000 HD DVD players and nearly 3 million Blu-ray players in homes, many analysts say both high-def disc formats will stay in business in 2008 and the years beyond. But Swann predicts that the Blu-ray forces, led by Sony and HD DVD's backers, led by Toshiba and Microsoft, will reach a compromise on a single format next year. He says the studios will push for a single format because most consumers will not buy high-def DVD players if there are two formats."

I heard this yesterday somewhere... this would be cool. This is how it should have ended to begin with.
I think you will see toshiba make bluray after they all sit down and give each other back rubs and make up haha

Amen brother.

Those clowns are going to be eating serious crow when this all goes down. They've been leading their followers like lambs to the slaughter, or better yet...

AVS reminds me of a place called Jonestown....

I think it's too late for that, unless the compromise is Blu-ray. But, I can't see Microsoft ever agreeing to a Java-based standard.

Again, as I posted a few weeks ago, don't think of the tech aspects of a solution. Think of a financial solution that will "allow" Toshiba to cease hostilities and move to a DUO player to support current HD DVD Libraries for a few years.

Looks like everyone is on to M$ now; I expect they'll be of little concern in this between Toshiba and the BDA. In fact, the demotion of Amir and Michael Bay's comment dovetail nice with this theory, doesn't it?

Thank god Hollywood figured this out before it was too late...

I think we just witnessed the proverbial 'olive branch' offered to Toshiba via the media. Funny how now this one comes out after stating a 336 million dollar adjustment down for revenue had HD-DVD and promotions as part of the blame.

Those Japanese guys love to save face.. wonder if they'll bite.

Tosh has been manufacturing the Cell Chip for PS3 40 gig for awhile. They wanted to be part of Blu-ray since the get go but forced into HD-DVD by MS. That Rough Notes article is a great little history lesson.

No wonder they are helping with the Cell Chip...

Toshiba is garbage. Everything they make is garbage from PCs to DUD players.

The only compomise there will be on a format next year is Toshiba bending over and getting kicked in the ass by BDA.

Maybe MS will be left in the cold while Toshiba jumps ship.

i am with you on that Gary..but they may not have very much of a choice and start targeting existing Standard build DVD top set boxes, and other devices because they may have too because BD-JAVA is a big direct threat to Microsoft, this realy is not about HD DVD or Blu-Ray with Microsoft its all about HDI pure and simple.

that's the reason were in this "so called format war anyway"
all over HDI vs' JAVA
