Just because he's doing this doesn't mean Kick-Ass 2 is dead...That seems like a huge conclusion to jump to.

There's always the chance that he wants to do this and X-Men first before going back, or maybe he just doesn't want to do a second and will end up getting another director to do it while he produces it. But I wouldn't say Kick-Ass 2 is dead unless we here otherwise from the studio.
