Currently, there are movies that have been out for several weeks that either cannot be played at all, or only can under odd circumstances (Like Live Free or Die Hard, which only seem to work when loading another disc up first).
I was able to play Live Free or Die Hard today (got it for Christmas), but just before I played Die Hard I was watching Rise of the Silver Surfer. I updated my firmware from the Samsung site with an update that looked like the Oct update, but was dated Dec 11th or 12th. Today was the first chance I got to view it. Does this mean the update didn't work and the only way Die Hard will play is when I play another another first? How odd. Thanks for the notice. |

Yes, that is correct. We are all still waiting for the much anticipated next FW version that will allow LFODH, POTC3 and other titles to play on the 1200. The FW version that is on the site at the moment is dated Dwc 11, 2007 (build date) but in fact it appears to be no different from the Oct 29, 2007 V2.0.

Hi All,
I was first off the mark with the Samsung BDP-1000 and paid full retail of $1200.00. I have not had any issues with the player until, F4 Silver Surfer and Live Free Die Harder. Will Samsung change my player to a 1400. How do I contact them? Just the 1-800 number, has anyone done this yet and what were the results? Thanks |

I got so sick of this player that I just got a PS3. So far everything's working great. I will likely put my BD-P1200 machine up on ebay or something like that at some point in the next few weeks just to get rid of it. I'm hoping to get as much for it as I can, but I mainly just want to be rid of it. |

You know, after I got the machine I tried a couple of DVDs in it and had some problems. I don't know if it was the couple of discs that I used or what.
The two movies that I tried were Bruce Almighty and The Big Lebowski. The upconversion looked great during the periods where the playback wasn't having any problems. However, every once in a while (I don't have an exact count, but probably somewhere around 6 to 9 times throughout the movie) the image would sort of freeze for a split second. The best thing I could compare it to would be a pause from a layer change on older DVD players, only it was slightly faster than that, and it didn't effect the audio. The image would just kind of freeze briefly, but then start moving again. It was always back in sync with the audio after the brief pause ended, but it was weird. I don't know if it was just these discs (they are both in good condition) or what, but I never really played any more regular DVDs in it again. I'd actually rather put up with a slightly worse up conversion (or even no upconversion at all) if it means that the movie will play back smoothly. I guess the irony of this is that both movies were put out by Universal. Maybe it was sign of Blu-Ray rejecting them. For a while now I've been using my player from the 'other' format to upconvert my movies and have had pretty good results, though now I'm probably going to switch to the PS3 for that purpose, as I tried out some DVDs in it and have been happy with the results. I don't know if anyone else has had this issue with the BD-P1200, but it really annoyed the hell out of me. |

This type of brief SD DVD image judder has been reported by a few folks on another forum (after the Sept. firmware upgrade), but it doesn't appear to be widespread. I've run probably a couple of hundred SD DVD's thru my 1200 and I've never experienced this issue.

Specifically in the case of us watching Bruce Almighty, we watched it prior to going to see Evan Almighty in the theater, so this would have been long prior to September, and I was having this issue. At any rate, so far I am finding the PS3 upconversion to be great for my needs, so I'm sticking with that until when/if something happens to make me change my mind about it. |
