Well I've been planning on Big Trouble for a while since thats a childhood love of mine, so I'm interested in how it holds up, so I'll be watching that one tonight. I should be then going on to watching OFOtCN and Gladiator as well pretty earlier into this weekend/next week

That's why I bought it. I guess I have grown old and boring since then. I didn't like how campy it was. Lots of people love it though.

That's probably why I really want to watch it again, I love campy stuff like that:rock But like you said, personal preference, if we all liked every film the same, then this would be the worst thread ever made

My biggest problem is juggling all those films around my shooting schedule for my short Gangster film and planning a documentary on the College I go to for some nice cash, and planning out celebrations for Worldwide Foggy Day next Friday

As World War II rages on, two students at a boarding school -- the French-Catholic Julien Quintin (Gaspard Manesse) and the Jewish Jean Bonnet (Raphael Fejto) -- form an unlikely friendship in director Louis Malle's powerfully moving drama based on events from his own life. Although the boys begin as adversaries, they soon find common ground, especially when it becomes clear that Jean is merely trying to survive the tyranny of the Nazis

I liked everything about this movie. A good story, well told, paced, and acted. It is another good film about WWII era Europe from a childs perspective.

4.5/5
Glad you liked it. A strong film that explores the simplicities of childhood that persist against the backdrop of a Nazi-ruled France, capturing the merciless burden of naivete during the time. Buying the blu?

Default Shrek Forever After

Shrek Forever After

USA 2010
Directed by Mike Mitchell
With Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz
Format: HDTV

The best Shrek since the first movie in my opinion. I was never much of a fan of Shrek. Saw the first movie in theaters back in 2001 and while I did not hated it I wasn't taken with it either like a lot of other people. It was fun and it was a nice twist on the fairy tale style (which as now been so much over done by Hollywood in the last 10 years make's me wish that Shrek never was made ) but it wasn't that amazing movie as some made it out to be. I saw number 2 and 3 and it was clear things were going down hill rather fast. This last movie (please Dreamworks make this the last Shrek movie, end this on a high note and don't try to get and squeeze the citron to make more money out of it) was original and make's a nice conclusion to the series. Would I but the series? Nah! Not really no, while it's not horrible it's not something I will care to really see often enough to make it worth my while. Last time I saw Shrek (the first movie) is sometime in 2002 and I never really had the need to see it again. Of course if you enjoyed the other three movies, this is a no question, buy it and enjoy it. A good conclusion and let's leave it at that.

The Hurt Locker (I thought it was cool)

The Shining (sweet! A must-see! One of the few films that genuinely scares me)

Gladiator (sweet! A must-see!)

Amadeus (sweet! It's a long drama, but I loved it)

Office Space (yeah...that's great... Best work-themed humor ever! So much of it is true-to-life...)

Big Trouble in Little China (well, you know what ol' Jack Burton says in a time like this... It's a total blast, I think you'll like it)

My Name Is Bruce (it's okay)

Leaving Las Vegas (still haven't seen)

Once Upon A Time In America (haven't seen. Not even sure if I'm interested)

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (sweet! I love it and consider it a must-see)

Schindler's List (I borrowed a copy from the library, will probably watch soon . I didn't like it when I first saw it, but it does have some sad and brutal parts, and is worthwhile for the subject matter alone)

Young Frankenstein (quite amusing. Check it out for a good laugh or two)

The Silence of The Lambs (sweet! A must-see!)

Saving Private Ryan (saw it just last weekend; it's sweet! Should be a must-see!)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (didn't care for it, but my opinion might change. Not sure what you'd think )

L.A Confidential (haven't seen)

Unforgiven (didn't care for it; it'll be worthwhile seeing once though)

The Evil Dead (groovy! You'll love it)

The Seventh Seal (sweet! Not sure if you have the patience for it, but give it a try, by all means! )

Trainspotting (sweet! It's one trippy movie!)

Casino (it's not bad; you might enjoy it, especially if you liked Scorsese's other work)

Rocky (saw it once a long time ago, never had the urge to see it again. Should still be worth seeing once)

Infernal Affairs trilogy (still haven't seen; should probably rent 'em)

The Shawshank Redemption (sweet! It's a great story worth seeing. )

Battle Royale (sweeeeeet! You'll love it! So very brutal and bloody... )
My input is above; I bolded the ones I consider most worthwhile. What a great line-up!

No. While I will gladly watch a recommended subtitled movie, I still find the task a wee bit laborious for repeat entertainment.

Edit: I have purchased a two flicks with subtitles, but they are ones that were 5+ stars for me.

Netflix synopsis:

Set amid the hallowed grounds of Hollywood's legendary Chateau Marmont, this atmospheric dramedy centers on hard-living actor Johnny (Stephen Dorff), whose life is thrown for a loop when his 11-year-old daughter, Cleo (Elle Fanning), pays him a surprise visit. As the two become better acquainted, Johnny realizes he needs to make changes. Oscar winner Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation) directs this character-driven film co-starring Chris Pontius

This film should have been titled Nowhere because that's exactly where it went. Strike two for Coppola in my book.

There is nothing done poorly here. Acting, camerawork, editng etc are all good. The pacing is deliberately very slow, but I enjoyed that aspect. There is just no story and the ending is nonexistent. The characters are nice enough to like, so the pain of NOTHING happening became frustrating. A guy just meanders aimlessly through life and the camera follows him. There is NO point being made, unless that IS the point, in which case I say WTF? Really! Worst ending I have seen in decades, tied with White Ribbon for the same reason, it just stops.

Film 2/5 The only reason I didnt go to 1 star, or even zero is because a lot of the individual scenes are fairly pleasant on their own.
PQ 4/5
AQ 3/5 Some dialogue was a bit hard to make out. Not bad though.
The trailer peaked my interest but I lost interest again after reading similar thoughts. Maybe she was trying to make a fresh take on Lost in Translation and just failed... I mean Lost in Translation could have gone wrong in many, many ways, but it held together beautifully which is part of what makes it so great. Somewhere was probably consumed by its own ambitions.

Thanks man, I forgot a few like I also have The Fountain and Sunset Boulevard along with others I can't think off, quite a lot of stuff to work my way through, starting with...

Big Trouble in Little China

Now, this goes back a very long way a way, but I know at a very young age watching this film, none of it has stuck and none of it made goddamn sense, all I know was that it was cool, and that it was on way too late for me as I would constantly fall asleep and wake up at random parts (I think the first film I stayed extra awake for was Commando at about 10:15 to Midnight, that blew my 5 year old mindAnother film on my list, although I doubt I will get around to it soon)

Now, I'm a man who loves his crazy campness, his ridiculousness and cheese laid on thick. Big Trouble in Little China is a masterpiece in all meaning of the word, it's in my Top 20 at least (which I will devise one day). Every frame is crafted to such elegance and grace, even though each frame you see portrays to exact opposite of that.

A big problem I can see people, like my friends, having is the fact that it tries to hard to be a cult classic, there is nothing accidentally genius to it, it's all implied. I say that for a film to be a cult classic, it needs to be good, but unique, a diversifying experience that will cause people to argue over it's greatness for years. Big Trouble in Little China is just that, it's hard to find a film similar to it, and people are obviously not going to like it. But what makes it a great cult classic is the passion, this is a film that doesn't care about what you think, it does what it thinks is best and all you can do is witness it. That, is why this film is a MASTERPIECE!!!

"You people sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning, and if we're not back by dawn...call the president."

10/10

Was going to start watching Infernal Affairs but the production teams logo just didn't put me in a good mood for a foreign film at this time

Agreed. While I give it a 5/5, a half a point is no big deal. I thought it was very well done all around obviously, right down to the voice acting. It proved that you don't need really big names to do the voices.

Uncertainty - 2009

Joseph Gordon-Levitt just keeps amazing me. Lynn Collins... well hello there beautiful...... and I mean beautiful.

This was one intense and thrilling movie. At the same time it was emotional, dramatic, and funny. They flip a coin. They could go one way, or they could go another. So what happens if they chose one path or the other? This movie shows both possibilities... at the same time. This was one of those most engaging, exciting, watch-at-the-edge-of-your-seat type of movies. I had no idea it would be so much of a thriller.... but not "thriller" in the traditional sense. More like "this is so amazing I can't wait to see how this turns out" type of thing.

The acting was downright fantastic. The storyline was incredible... both of them. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.... seriously. I loved the directing and cinematography. Absolutely beautiful shots of NY. Oh, and all this coming from online streaming Netflix in HD. I couldn't even imagine how gorgeous a Blu-ray transfer would look on this movie. I mean, I was really impressed with the PQ despite it being a streaming movie... the best I've ever seen.

I really recommend this movie. It has it all. Suspense, drama, laughter, sadness, and more. I love independent films. There seems to be so many hidden gems out there... this being one of them. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, you're an amazing actor. And Lynn Collins, you're a fox.

PQ - 4/5 (Netflix streaming HD)
AQ - 3/5

5/5

Actually, I went through my collection and thought about it a bit more, and it's more to do with replay value and how much I like a film. I guess I have weird requirements (ones I cant even put my finger on) because there are movies that I thought were fabulous, but have no desire to rewatch.
