Don't need to although it looks good, it'll be forgotten in no time, it's been released far too early to make an impact on the votes, and the new rules in place make it chances nearly nigh on impossible. Over 5% voting for this to be the Best Picture, over all the Oscar fodder yet to come out, really strongly doubt it.

It might get a few lesser ones, like Editing, sound, even a few Acting nods or a best screenplay (although that might be pushing it), but I just don't see the becoming a name thrown around at the time awards come around.

And since when did an Oscar ever mean a film was great or not, a tone of great films don't get nominated, for reasons purely because of stuff I said above.

Anyway, the film isn't out in the UK

Thumbs up

"THE DEBT" - starring Helen Mirren, Tom Wilkinson, Sam Worthington, Jessica Chastain.
[Show spoiler]It appears to be a true story & I thought it was. But in looking around, that doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe it was based on similar stories.
(<--- click on at your own risk, tho' not really a "spoiler" per se').

Saw this earlier (1:45pm) & absolutely LOVED IT!! Great movie, GREAT Cast, excellent story. Shot well, Directed
[Show spoiler](<--- John Madden)
superbly, Editing is first-rate as well.

[Show spoiler](you can click on the above to learn the "story" itself, though if you've seen the trailer, you pretty much know that that entails).
(<--- Ok to click on).

Movie: 5 of 5
Cast/Acting: 5 of 5
Story/Execution/Direction: 5 of 5

** PS: The theater I was in was freakin' PACKED!!! Can't remember a more packed theater since I don't know when...! **

(The movie is a remake of the 2007 Israeli drama-thriler of the same name.)

I was so impressed by this. A very intelligent and well-made thriller. Jessica Chastain is simply wonderful here. With her roles in many films throughout 2011 (The Help, Tree of Life, Take Shelter, and this) I can say without a doubt that I love this woman. She's a true talent. Sam Worthington was great in this and at the best I've seen him. The love triangle between the main characters was surprisingly involving.

I originally wasn't even that interested in this but am so glad I saw it. Didn't think I'd love it so much.

4/5, just watched this last night, great movie. I remember seeing the trailer last summer but it just never came out and I waited and waited. Worth the wait.

From my Review above:

Quote:
Release
The film premiered at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival in September 2010. Miramax originally announced plans to release the film in the United States on December 29, 2010, and it quickly began to appear on lists of possible 2011 Oscar contenders. Before the official December 29, 2010, U.S. premiere, it was shown December 4, 2010, as part of the Washington DC Jewish Film Festival, and as early as October 17, at the Mill Valley Film Festival. However, the film was one of two films that had their official opening dates delayed until 2011 as a result of a "transaction between [Miramax] owner Disney and soon-to-be new owners, construction magnate Ron Tutor and Tom Barrack's Santa Monica-based Colony Capital (led by former Disney CFO Richard Nanula)...."

In February 2011, the announcement was made that the new release date had been scheduled for August 31, 2011. MPAA rating R for language and some violence.

Foggy - I'm sorry but If you haven't even seen the film yet, then Any of your posts about it Not getting Possible ACADEMY AWARD nominations are pretty much pointless. Not just you, btw, but Anyone who says similar comments WITHOUT Seeing the movie (or ANY movie) in question, I'll say the same thing.

Come on now, thought you were better than that.

Joking of course, but thanks. I do that with all my friends who rag on a movie THEY HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN yet. It's like, Really? Go away. Just, GO AWAY...

Person A: "That movie Sucks!"
Me: "You seen it yet?"
Person A: "No, but I can tell..."
Me: "SHUT THE F$@K Up Fool !!"

Ok, but I am certain about it, nobody is talking about, there is nothing floating around the film in terms of oscar buzz. I'd love to see some nominations around it (Especially since it written by Matthew Vaughan and Jane Goldman) Sure, I have an outsiders view, but name one time the quality of a film ALONE, got itself nominated.

I guess Froggy was right! Good job! I thought it was a decent movie, and very little negative comments can be made about it. It will be forgotten by most, however, and the fact that it didn't get any kind of award recognition in Dec., Jan., or Feb. will only strengthen that statement.
