I dont have a HDMI input on my sharp projector just component. Can I run HDMI strictly to get HD sound.
Use component output on PS3 to receiver without being downgraded to
720p???

I don't see why not. I don't own a PS3, so I can't comment if all of it's video inputs are on all the time or not.. The Onkyo isn't going to care if it doesn't do anything with the video signal.

does the projector have a dvi input?

No DVI. Looking to upgrade sometime in the future, so stuck with good old component right now!! Awesome info everyone!!! Thanks for all the input!!

You'll be good. Some actually prefer component for HD signals. So don't worry about getting an inferior picture. The cool thing is that if you get a new tv that is 1080p, all you need is an extra HDMI cable (from receiver to tv), change a couple settings on the PS3 and your good to go.
