Default onkyo 605 question

I was thinking about getting the onkyo 605, would it be possible to input to the onkyo at 1080p via component cables and have it output through hdmi to the tv?

I have my Wii at 480P going into my 605 via component and out to the TV via HDMI. I don't have anything 1080P going in via component then out via HDMI, but it would probably work just fine.

sweet, are there any special settings you needed for that???? My tv only goes up to 1080i via component so if i can get 1080p using the receiver that would be perfect!!

It should be what comes is will go out. You will have to check the manual to be sure.

With my Denon I have 1080i through component going out of the HDMI port to the TV.

Sorry, but you can't get 1080p out unless you have all the way through. The most you're going to get is 1080i (not that there's anything wrong with that), that's the limitation of your TV. I wouldn't be too disappointed, I really don't think you're going to be able to tell the difference unless your TV is about 60" and up...

No the 605 and the 705 don't upscale to 1080P via component to HDMI.

Just read your sig line. You state that your TV is 1080p, but you're talking about it only having 1080i. I'm confused, would you mind clarifying?

That's the other aspect of the equation. You have to use HDMI from start to finish, and have a 1080p Blu-ray player hooked through a 1080p supportive receiver to a 1080p TV. Hope that straightens things out...

He's saying only 1080i through component on the TV but 1080p through HDMI. So he wants to send 1080p through component to the receiver and have the receiver send that signal through the HDMI port on the receiver to the HDMI port on the TV so he can get 1080p on the TV>

The Onkyo 605 will only "touch" or convert the signal if it is input as one type of signal (component) and output as another (HDMI). So if you input as component and output as component, then the Onkyo 605 should not change the signal. However, I have not heard of any device being able to output 1080p over a component cable. What player/ device are you using and are you sure that it is output in 1080p??

He is not talking about outputting to component. He wanted to output to HDMI the input was component.

By the way, I just checked out Vanns.com's website, and the Onkyo 605 does support 1080p. So, if you use HDMI start to finish, and your Blu and TV are both 1080p, then you should be all set... http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...ures/538500464

Yes HDMI to HDMI 1080P no problem. All I said was if you hookup your Wii to component it won't out put 1080P to HDMI.

HDMI to HDMI will result in whatever your TV can support and the source resolution.

Component to component will result in 1080i max and whatever your source is.

Component to HDMI will result in 720p.

my tv will only do 1080p via hdmi, some stupid sony restriction I overlooked before buying the tv. I really dont feel like buying another 360 just for an hdmi port, rather spend the money on a ps3 so i can watch blu movies.
