My barometer on a companies downfall occurs when it is bought by a larger company. This has happened countless times and the 3 that stick out most to me are when Harman industries (who I loved) took over Infinity (whose speakers were cutting edge at one time) and JBL whose speakers have adorned concert halls and recording studios since forever. These brands are just shells of the greatness they once commanded. The last would be Acoustic Research who defined high fidelity in the 50's, 60's and 70's. When sold in the 90's to the Recoton they came out with 2 radically different speaker lines (one of which I own). Then they were sold to the cheap accessory brand Audiovox and have all but disappeared.

I see the same thing happening now with the internet direct company SVS sound, whose subs I own
