yup indeed 10 years running on the same line for the Contours plus it will stay around and go under upgrades shorthly but the line will still be around. i spoke to the Canadian rep at SSI.

On the question of "Can you see the death of a company when they abandon what got them there in the first place". I have to say no, but I am worried.

I'm hoping and praying that Totem doesn't stop production of the Arro, Sttaf, Hawk, Forest and Wind for the new Element Line that incorporates their new Torrent driver.
This is unlikely to happen just by the way Vince was talking about the Mani2 and the Wind I also spoke to the New Rep and they will stick to their classics, you see, the Rokk has been abandon in the past for the Rainmaker but the Rokk never actually picked up so Totem is like that, what ever works stays around it's their philosophy. The on speaker that might go away is the Mites and they moght just replace them with another model in the same range. i was told also that since the Dreamcatcher is not a big money maker they might get rid of it. I know the Dream sub was dropped.

Right on even last year at SSI, he did mention he wanted to keep Elements and WIND Mani2 family which also inludes Forest and Model One. they are different sounding speakers after all.

It will be a fantastic speakers. I'd call Dynaudio, Totem, and Eggelston speakers triplets becasue they all have a very distinctive and similar sound! I heard the Eggelstons in J-ville and they sound just like the Dynaudios I heard a few years back that sound like the Totems by old boss sells in Virginia!!!! Oh add Eggelston to the list!

haha yes for sure, and I mean Vice chose Dynaudio at some point for a reason cause they have the sound properties he was looking for in a way and actually created an amazing speaker in his Model One, no kidding that model is still around today.

I remember last year asking Nico if they were going to go in the same direction of building their own drivers from now on and he said well you know what if we cannot find what we are seeking for in a driver on the market we will be making the driver ourselves but if it's there available for us why not use what is on the market.

I mean a speaker is whole so not because your driver is better your speaker sounds better but it greatly contributes to it. Their is a lot of good raw drivers manufacturers out there and Totem has used several of them such as Scanspeak, Hi-Vi and Peerless, and SEAS for their tweeters. The list is much longer than that but those i know Totem used them all.

There are many speakers that have abandoned their real signature stuff - what made people identify with them. I won't mention those (someone may get offended). But if you are known for something and its good....stick with it. Bob Carver is bringing out a new version of the Silver Seven Amp as we speak!!!
My barometer on a companies downfall occurs when it is bought by a larger company. This has happened countless times and the 3 that stick out most to me are when Harman industries (who I loved) took over Infinity (whose speakers were cutting edge at one time) and JBL whose speakers have adorned concert halls and recording studios since forever. These brands are just shells of the greatness they once commanded. The last would be Acoustic Research who defined high fidelity in the 50's, 60's and 70's. When sold in the 90's to the Recoton they came out with 2 radically different speaker lines (one of which I own). Then they were sold to the cheap accessory brand Audiovox and have all but disappeared.

I see the same thing happening now with the internet direct company SVS sound, whose subs I own

I'm glad that the Klipsch Heritage modification community is so big, that if Klipsch failed, there would be plenty of ways to keep my speakers up to spec and even exceed it !

Yup Russ, as a former owner of Energy speakers i know very well, and now we have seen Jamo HTIB 5.0 speakers rebreanded as Energy, Now we see Energy Soundbars, I can say that QA has gone really bad too, dust cap of suwoofers coming off. It was a very sad day for uss indeed.

The way things are going the only brands that'll be left are the high end exotics or Bose

This is sad...and Mirage is now gone (merged with Jamo - now neither speaker has an identity). If Klipsch stops the Heritage line...its over. They only make them by special order now as it is.

Yeah Mirage was originally part of the API group with Athena, Energy and Mirage to begin with so Klipsch had bought API and Jamo. As I said the regranded Jamo Speakers into Energy.
