I was listening to the Rope of Silicon podcast the other day and they brought up a point that directly relates to this, films are constantly being made for a wider and wider audience so it can appeal to every possible demographic yet theater attendance is steadily dropping. Ken Jeong Finds Pain and Gain

Michael Bay's Pain and Gain is Coming in April

The problem with a black comedy is that it needs subtle filmmaking techniques - something that is not really Michael Bay's speciality. I'm not saying that all his films are terrible, but not one of them required him to use a less heavy-handed directorial approach and he didn't need to add in some real emotion either. We'll see how this turns out, but I don't have high hopes.
