With Prometheus, almost every shot looked perfect. I am not holding my breath for Prometheus to win for best cinematography or to even get nominated, but that too would be well deserved.
The CineFex article did an excellent job of pointing out how much of what we saw in the film was in camera rather than CGI. If the prosthetics used for the Engineers is considered makeup, the film may win an Oscar for that as well, or at least get nominated.

Yeah, he seems to say different things for different interviews. lol

My guess is we will see a longer cut on the BD/DVD. The only real problem is that we still have to wait a while for it!

Excellent question. The system depicted in Prometheus in the star cluster images (cave paintings) actually exists. It shows the
[Show spoiler]Zeta Reticuli System which is a binary star (Zeta 1 and Zeta 2 Reticuli. Ridley Scott has given us the information that LV-223 is in Zeta 2 Reticuli. So was LV-426 from 1979 Alien. Both are shown as moons/planetoids of a ringed gas giant when the Prometheus and Nostromo are in close proximity to the ringed gas giant in space.

So, the cave paintings got them to Zeta 2 Reticuli. At that point they selected a planet capable of supporting life.

The Engineers seeded life on numerous planets including Earth. They returned to guide the development of humanity from time to time until 2000 years before the timeframe of the Prometheus film. It would be common for humans to ask where the emissaries came from. The emissaries didn't identify the planet, only the star system. The Prometheus didn't have the exact coordinates for the landing site. The homeworld of the Engineer may be somewhere in the same star sytem. So, in essence pointing at the Zeta Reticuli system is the same as pointing to their homeworld when answering the question "Where do you come from" from someone from an ancient Earth civilization. One can assume that they provided them with the star system pattern rather than just pointing to a point in the heavens, since the pattern of stars could not have been seen with the naked eye.

Yeah, October can't get here fast enough for me! I may just have to pony up to see this a third time and continue helping it to get that kick-start for a sequel pretty soon.

I hope it's the "my room; 10 minutes" scene

That would change it from a 1st day buy to a pre-order.

Sounds like that's what it is.

Speaking of Janek, I really hope we get more character scenes for him (as well as the crew). One of issues I do have with the movie is that I don't feel like his
[Show spoiler]sacrifice at the end
is earned. A bit more time spent with his character will hopefully do the trick.

I found this revealing tidbit rather interesting...

[Show spoiler]
Quote:
TIME: In that final scene, David wants to go to Earth, and Elizabeth wants to go to the alien home world. Where do you think they’re going?

Lindelof: I think they’re going where she wants to go. His fundamental programming has been scrapped. Weyland [the man who built and programmed him] is dead and so now his programming is coming from God knows where. Is he being programmed by Elizabeth, or is it his own internal curiosity now that Weyland isn’t telling him what to do any more? He’s always been interested in Elizabeth, remember that: He’s watching her dreams when she’s sleeping in much the same way that he watches Lawrence of Arabia. He’s a strange robot that has a curious crush on a human being, and when Weyland is eliminated, I think he is genuinely interested in what she’s interested in. He reaches out partly for survival, but partly out of curiosity, and I think he’s sincere that he’ll take her wherever she wants to go.
Wow...I really hadn't given that any consideration before...it certainly deepens his motivations as to why he chose to infect Dr. Holloway with the black goo as opposed to anyone else in the crew. Obviously David was still following his prime directive from Weyland, to "try harder," but as to his decision on who he ultimately chooses as his test subject, well, perhaps this points to some sort of misguided or misdirected jealousy towards the relationship he views between Dr. Holloway and Dr. Elizabeth Shaw...as if Dr. Holloway wasn't good enough for her...hmm, the plot thickens!

Talking

I have watched this film 3 times now,1 2d with 2k barco DCI,2 Imax GT 15/70 3d in sydney(largest Imax screen in the world,Real Imax) and 3rd time 3d with new 4k barco Dci on approx 60ft screen.

The picture quality really was not very good, the opening scene and many others had the potential to be far more stunning.Imax picture was soft but this is the result of DI of only 2.2k,and Imax DMR process to a 12k approx and a very large screen. The Audio was good and the bass was fantastic and seemed to be running hot.(the movie does have a lot of bass)

http://electronicdesign.com/article/...chnology-73934

I should mention that I haven,t been to the movies for 3 yrs,due to picture quality and audio quality.

Third time lucky,3d with 4k barco(3d is 2x2k) the new spiderman trailer was stunning (The movie is 4k DI ,VFX too) but then the movie came on.

With a $150m to $160m budget you would thing with 4k in homes(some) now
and 4k in homes only a matter of time, mastering this movie at only 2.2k DI is a big problem.
On a larger screen(Cinema,s) it is clearly a very soft picture. On Bluray this will no doubt look fine but this short sightedness will forever limit picture quality. The audio in this cinema was very good which ,I have never said before about any cinema.

I did talk to the projectionest and he confirmed 2k DCI movie ,Barco,s are only 5wks old and like most don,t know much about them.(These 4k barco,s are the best DCI projector,s ATM,3d all projectors suffer with Light output 14FTL 2d, and only 3.5 to 4.5FTL 3d unofficial, standard which most cannot achieve even with the largest lamps available.Imax standard is 22ftL 2d .

PLOT HOLE ALERT!!!!! -
[Show spoiler]Shaw doesn't look anything like Peter O'Toole. Therefore your whole premise is faulty and all of the scenes with David and Shaw are crap. Also the end of "Lost" sucked. Also, David only has a head so he has no hope of being of any assistance to Shaw on a long, lonely space voyage (well "almost" no assistance....). So there....

The only thing I think about after I leave a movie is whether I enjoyed it or not. That means different things to different people.

Finally got to watch it at the 3D Imax tonight. I enjoyed it. I will marinate on it some but for now my initial gut response is:

[Show spoiler]Visually fantastic, great atmosphere as well. The 3D is very well done, great natural feeling depth and not the gimmicky in your face throw an axe at the screen 3D. The audio was well done as well. The score actually goes very well with the movie for me. I had listened previously on itunes and it didn't do much. A couple of times they could have had silence instead of music to be more effective in my opinion, but overall I enjoyed it.

I really am not sure what I'd rate it yet, maybe 3 to 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed what there was in the movie.. but as somebody else said it doesn't work great as a stand alone movie for me, decent but incomplete feeling by itself. The script was pretty good at times and sloppy at times.

I feel like I watched half of a movie in a way. I don't want to wait 4 years or so to see what happens next. Enjoyable but unsatisfying in the end. I wanted more of the Engineer (he looks awesome), more of a lot of things.

The pace was very fast, I don't mind that so much but really felt like they could have added to the length quite a bit, beefed it up.

It is hard to see why it is R rated aside from the one scene with Shaw. It makes me wonder if they tried too get a PG13 rated and just fell short.

This is my view of the "reason"
[Show spoiler]Until 2000 years ago, the Engineers were teaching us things and trying to make us grow like them, inviting us to their system as a goal for a good and advanced civilization. But long after they left Earth they probably came to check on us and realize that we creating war, destroing our planet and even thought we could be a threat in the future, so they decided to destroy us but something went wrong

I was so taken by the design and look of the film, that I decided to order the artbook, which is the first time I've ever done so, even if I've looked through several in the past, and wow, just wow! If you're a fan of the film then I'd say this book is essential memorabilia. It's just stunning and gives you a whole new appreciation for the look and feel of the film. I highly recommend it!

Third screening for me this weekend. The more i see it the more i love it.
Can't describe why i like it but i do.
I feel a connection to it.
It tugs at all the right emotions for me.
Visually it's a treat.
And to be honest, i can't see anything wrong with it.
I saw it before people started going on about plotholes and after and it still hasn't changed the way i feel about the film.
Also to be honest again, as much as i love the Alien movies, Prometheus was a breath of fresh air. Changes it up a bit.

As I said in my last post, you can have whatever opinion of the film and reasons for said opinion, but to keep coming back and reiterating that opinion for no apparent reason is quite simply annoying. It would be equally annoying if someone were doing the same thing about how much they liked the movie.

I will stop feeding you now, carry on.

I guess Amazon would be a good bet. Or you could check the ISBN number at other online bookstores to find what suits you the best.

For myself, there's a difference between the movies that I love and movies I enjoy. The movies that I love stay with me long after my initial viewing experience and I savor pondering the many ideas and themes that are presented. Prometheus is definitely one of those films for me.

I found that bit of information in the Time interview interesting because it was presented by the film's scriptwriter, Damon Lindelof, and it was an idea that I hadn't really considered before, though in hindsight it seems fairly obvious.
