thanks for all the help...one last quick question: those settings keep referencing specific firmware versions. I went on the samsung website and looked up product updates for this model tv, and it's not showing any firmware updates on there. How do you check and see which firmware version your tv currently has installed?
Thanks again!

Getting the firmware for your specific model isn't that hard. It's some combination of button presses from the remote I believe. Check the link in the post above for more information.

thx again for the info...i was able to find my firmware (1029). Strange how there's so much difference in calibration between firmware versions...anyway, i calibrated using the settings on there...my PS3 looks great with blu-rays using them, but my directv hd dvr looks like crap using those settings...but at least i finally have good settings for blu-rays. thanks!

DC: just curious how your third TV turned out, and what your calibration settings were. i am using the avs recommended settings, and even my wife noticed that the picture looks a little...washed out. i've tried to adjust the settings here and there, but still no luck. any thoughts or help? never saw a post from you after you said you were going to try out your third set. thanks!

I finally got my third tv after having to argue with BB for 2 hours that the tv was defective and I tried the settings reccomended here and the picture is too dark and the reds are way too low, guess I will have to do some more research and see if I can come up with anything better. I'm still getting grain on this one which leads me to beleive I have a defective PS3 (joy). Guess we will have to continue on with the chalkboard on finding the proper calibration settings for the Samsung tv
