There is no tray lol . A PS3 doesn't have a tray, I know what you mean though. A PS3 is like a car CD player. It just slots in.

Thanx though .

Any other help?

Off the top of my head I don't think the PS3 supports it. It should be answered in one of the two instruction booklets that came with your PS3.

If the DVD drive in Wii can accept Mini-DVD (Gamecube)... I don't see why you can't do that with PS3.

If it can't load, it'll spit it out.

I remembering reading somewhere that you can load them. I can't remember where i read it, but i remember it saying to load in the center of the slot, not the edges.
I'll try to find the article for you.

Edit: update: this is directly from the owner's manual:

Use only circular-shaped discs with the system. Do not use irregularly-shaped
discs (for example, heart- or star-shaped discs). Using irregularly-shaped discs
may cause a malfunction.
Do not use damaged, re-shaped or repaired discs. Use of such discs may cause a
malfunction.
When using an 8 cm disc, insert the disc in the system without an adaptor.

So yes you can.

No, Wii use the standard DVD disc format. It was just Gamecube that used the mini-DVD format.

Come to think of it, Sony has been making DVD Handycam models for more than 5 years (way before the PS3 came out)....so yeah this should be given.

What I can't understand is as to how exactly does it "center" such a small disc in place. What is the science involved in this?

Think of it like a pair of scissors. When open all the way the PS3 can accept regular discs, in the center of the loader is a switch that senses when there is a disc present and begins to "grip" down on the disc. Just like scissors, it would close down to any size (to an extent) and eventually grip the disc so that it can retract it into the loader centered.
Hope I explained that okay!!!!!!

Hmm...okay.

But let me ask you this:
Do you think Sony have thought of a situation where the 8 cm disc would be inserted (either accidental or intentional) in the edges and not in the center.

What happens then? Can it still be read (meaning "scissors" principle you mentioned goes into effect)??? Or does that mean that your PS3 is doomed if you insert an 8cm disc in a place other than the center?
