Default She put the HD-DVD movies back

As simple as it sounds. I met a woman yesterday at BB with two HD-DVD movies in her hands while I was looking at the BD's. We started to chat and I told about the benifits of BD. When I told here about all the studio support for BD and only one fully backing HD-DVD, she put the movies back. She said she bought the HD-DVD player because it was "open box" and got it for $300 (Best Buy pushed it on her over BD). She said at that point she would rather lose $300 and toss the player(got it 2 months ago and no movies) and switch to BD instead of buying HD-DVD movies. Go Blu-ray!

Nice job on the persuasion.

Just shows how this could work for the average consumer as well.

Heck even some of those former AVS HD-DVD fanboys are even starting to get into Blu-ray.

Comments like: "I still prefer HD-DVD all the way....but that list from Blu-ray is not something that I can ignore as well. Most of all, it has 007 and Casino Royale."

HD-DVD is starting to feel the pressure.

What ever BB store she bought the player from is stupid. They sold her a toshiba player at a loss instead of sending it back to Toshiba to get full credit back for it... I wish I could call that customer and tell her to return the player, as if she bought it only two months ago, it stills falls under the holiday return policy.

Anyhow I bet it was pushed on her by some of the HD-DVD fanboys that work at Best Buy. The internal forum at BB is full of them.

Everytime, I am at Best Buy - 3 or 4 times a week. I always talk about how great BD is to anyone who is looking at High Def movies. I usually get a lot of positive response when I explain the differences between the two in laymans terms.

The problem I see is that lots of employees at many of these places (not all employess mind you) are just reading a script from the backroom on the products and do not know what they are selling. E.g. - I was asking a clerk at Barnes and Noble if they were carring blu-ray yet and he said no what is that all about anyways. I of course, took the time to give him a brief overview of both formats.

Default Customer education is key...

It's one thing to read about all this until you are BLU in the face, but for a lot of potential customers they have very specific questions. Once those questions are answered by people in the know such as yourselves, it makes their decision much easier to make. I can't tell you how many times I have ventured into a retail store chain where the sales person representing "item of the week" has less of a clue than I do about the item. This of course leads to uneducated choices, hence format war still on-going.

I totally agree. I am friends with the manager there and some of the staff. I do see them pushing HD-DVD more then BD, yet BD is well out selling HD-DVD. This is the same manager that told me they had a meeting about sending HD-DVD's back as sales diminish. He also leans in favor of BD also.

I will not persuade fellow customers to not make a purchase, but I will talk to them why I support Blu-ray. It is not my place to tell them to stop a purchase they intend to make.

I did educate the local Best Buy salesman so that he could be smarter on the tech... that is more a benefit to him in general to help him do his job.

My Borders is carrying Blu-ray now. I bought Rocky (MGM) and a cashier (not the one charging me) started asking me about them and how much were the players. He also asked me how did they look and I said , mm as good as film and he said well, theaters don't look very good, and then I corrected myself and said: As good as film in focus. That got his attention and the other people's in the line

Also the manager at my Suncoast (who's become my friend after all the Blu-rayings I do, as I always tell him what's the latest title I've added to the list) just told me he got a PS3 and he was smiling, agreeing Blu-rays were goood, and then we got into an argument with one of his employees that started spewing all the usual FUD stories about HD DVD he probably has heard around, and between the manager talking about his experience with his new "toy", and me, we shot down every single one of them.

Soooo she put the HD DVD back

I also got into somewhat of a debate with a Circuit City employee yesterday while I was looking through the BD rack. Two of them were watching Superman Returns on HD-DVD and the one turned to me and said how much better the HD-DVD was over BD. That's it, it's on! We debated back and forth abit and then I said (not trying to be cocky just prove a point) "I have an $80K car in the parking lot and I will put it up against whatever you are driving, that the benefits of BD far outway HD-DVD".

He told me to look at the pic from Surerman on HD and then the demo disk playing on BD. He was right that the demo disk sucked, so I told him to put in Crank and take a look and that I will pay for the movie if I was wrong. He finally agreed with me, but stated that the average person won't know the difference and that they promote HD-DVD over BD. The crazy part is, as I was leaving he told me he owns a PS3!!!

C6 Z06 one word discrimination! How come you are allowed to talk someone out buying HD-DVD and I'm not.

That's right there is a race on down under, between the Easter Bunny and HD-DVD and the smart money is on the bunny. Santa lost his race, Blu ray thrashed him.

Did you ask them if they go to AVS Forum? It would be comedy gold if it were one of the more well known zealots in the store there with you.

BTW, love the new Z06. If i wasnt saving up for a Gallardo, the Z06 would be my next purchase. Luckily a good friend of mine is getting one soon so i will get to take it to malibu canyon for some break in time.

I don't think he is active on any forum.................................but he needs to be on this one.

The C6 Z is a blast. I have it modded to 650 HP now. I use it as a daily driver and track car and then have another C6 that we use as a backup if the Z is down for service. You and your friend will love it out of the box. Great machine even though it's a GM product.

I never looked at your name lol. I was considering the purchase of a new Z06 as well but my local Chevy dealer wanted 103K for the thing. Even worse they seem to be the only dealer in my area that can get them

I was looking as possibly buying a Grandsport Spyder but may hold off now till the new Alfa/Maserati hybrids come in. That should early 08 from what I have been told.
<---Big ALFA fan

I guess that Z06 SS Stingray should be out that time as well.

Looks like you are a car nut like myself. I'm trying to get my hands on the SS myself if and when they make it. Where are you in VA. ?
