(((Emphasis added by me.)))

Film has been better resolution than SD since the 30s (and some before that). It's not that films are now shot in HD. It's that we now have a generally and publicly available medium to take advantage of what is in film. I just wish they'd all go to the original negatives and create a true, oversampled, high dynamic range digital master. Then we'd be able to see 100% of what's really available.

I believe that eventually all studios will migrate to a predominance of 50 GB disks. When Sony (and others) consistently get great reviews after using lossless audio and AVC (or even VC-1) at high bit rates which necessitates the 50 GB disks then everyone will get on board with this.

There are films that will fit within 25 GB. Some old films have very limited sound tracks. In my opinion it makes no sense to do lossless 5.1 or 7.1 sound on those. And many films during the 70s were less than 90 minutes in length (a lower percentage now, but still some are that short). Combining limited sound tracks and reduced length can reasonably fit within 25 GB at the highest quality possible.
