They won't do that until they feel safer about DRM capabilities.

screw DRM capabilities! They need to win this war and the only way they'll do that is by releasing something ENORMOUS like Star Wars or Indiana Jones (proble will release it along with the 4th part).

Yes I need Tombstone also but back to the topic of this thread. Two thumbs down for G.I. Jane. I have to agree that they could have used the time spent on this transfer for something that we will all want.

This is a chess game. First, you move you pawns ahead (not HD DVD's strategy). Later, you move your more powerful pieces. IMO, even if Indiana Jones and Spiderman was released right now, it would not win the format war. That would just create a spike in the overall numbers. They are creating chart of sustained growth. They means strategic placement of titles associated with certain amount of copies sold. I think the BDA is pushing for a CES 2008 win. If you see the big titles start to come in with increasing frequency, it should be a tell tale sign that the BDAs teeth are over HD DVDs throat.

I was happy with G.I. Jane. I hadn't seen it before (I had a thing about military movies since I was in the military).

One of the reasons I think they released G.I. Jane (even with it's not so wonderful picture quality) is because it never got an Anamorphic release. Then the argument could be, "well where's Armageddon? At least that'd look good!" Well I have a feeling Buena Vista is having questions about releasing that due to the fact that there is a Director's Cut from Criterion and we all know Criterion's verdict on HD releases.

BR needs to get off of this releasing of crappy transfers. It's really causing damage, IMHO. I don't care if the release is The 5th Element or GI Jane, the word about crappy transfers IS damaging. I'd rather they held off and took their time than release crap that makes BR look bad.

I will say that the latest previews I've downloaded from the PS3 Store for the latest movies look really clean and clear, although I'm wondering if the BR movie I'd buy would look that good. I just looked at CLICK a few mins ago, and it was very nice. Hope the final movie looks like that on BR too.

300 was really grainy, but I think they went for that look on purpose. Not sure so much grain is a smart move for the average consumer, though.
