Too bad we didn't get a four-part Hobbit with the entire first movie called Party at Bilbo's.

I've seen it once in theaters and twice at home. It remains near similar on all viewings. It's such an enjoyable film.

I think that it would have been called 'My Dinner With Bilbo'.

The Lord of the Rings films did a great job of this, especially Return of the King.
Not sure about that one.

Oh, it's silly. And Walt wouldn't have done something like that, but Chuck Jones would've.

I also don't agree that Jackson tried to stay true to The Hobbit as a "children's book".

Its a shorter movie vs FOTR, but feels longer IMO for quite a few reasons. Much less interesting characters, less interesting action scenes a few of which border on goofy, less engaging story geared more toward a younger audience (like the book), less depth in general, somewhat poor editing, etc.......Throw in an unconvincing LFE mix vs FOTR which is fantastic in this area and its not hard to see why some of us thought this film sludged along.

FOTR EE for me comes as close to cinema perfection as it gets and The Hobbit falls way short in comparison

Return of the King was longer than An Unexpected Journey, but it didn't feel as so. The pacing was much better and more consistent. Only towards the end did Return of the King feel like it was dragging on. Even then, it still manages to maintain more of my attention than Fellowship of the Ring and Two Towers.

Yeah, in your opinion, which I don't agree with. Is that okay?

Good.

What's your problem? He was just speaking his opinion of the movie.

I don't know, I actually have no comeback regarding my behavior there. I just saw red for some reason, possibly because I loathe RoTK.

My apologies to riddlerfiddler.

If it is I might just wait to get all the hobbit movie extended editions. In the mean time at least I can see the hobbit as I didn't get to see it in theaters.
You need to rent or borrow both the theatrical and EE of one or more LoTR movies and find out for yourself. There is no consensus about which is better so you will get opinions that you have no basis to gauge which is 'right'.

That said, just because you think the EE of LoTR are better or worse than the theatrical editions doesn't mean the same will be true of any or all of the Hobbit movies. I personally preferred the EE of LoTR but plan on only buying the theatrical of Hobbt AUJ.

I would tend to agree. Hobbit AUJ seemed to drag a bit more than RotK. But even the theatrical edition of RotK seemed to take an eternity. Granted there were a lot of endings to the book which made it more difficult. Even having read the books, my wife and I kept expecting the credits to come up anytime for an eternity before they actually did.

No double dipping for me on this one. It's already bloated enough in the theatrical release.

I did double dip twice on the LOTR trilogy both DVD and BD in theatrical and extended. But it was worth it for them.

I only double dipped for the theatrical and extended editions of the LOTR on DVD, I waited for the extended ones for Blu-Ray, and will do the same for the Hobbit movies.

I watched The Hobbit yesterday, and it was nearly 45 minutes until it finally takes off with action. The beginning just drags horribly. In fact, I saw it in the theater, and I was conked by the time Bilbo signs the contract. I slept through most of the movie. lol

I still don't understand why they went so CGI heavy on this one. CGI was mainly used in wide exterior shots in the first trilogies.
