4K = YAWN
I think a lot of people feel this way, as good as Blu-ray is it's still hasn't been fully embraced, and to add yet another format namely 4K I think that it will never get out of the hardcore niche market.

I agree, I have seen it myself and it is very noticeable if I go 4k it would most likely be a projector. Everyone is so focused on resolution, but the big thing about 4k that a lot of people miss is the increased colour space this will be immediately noticeable even on a smaller screen, say good bye to banding, the other added benefit is B&W movie will also look better.

Yeah, the increase in color saturation/replication will be the other big plus since we already have lossless audio. I certainly have no problem with seeing banding being abolished as it still seems to creep into new releases from time to time.

I can hear the future whining already. Example: "the new Star Wars set still doesn't have the original versions and looks just like my blu-rays".
Pass, but I said that about blu too and look at me now.

The Star Wars thread has a few hundred extra pages because of that BS.

Exactly!!

Same theory applies today with 1080P. If your watching a 32" TV or even a 42" in some cases 720P and 1080P will look exactly the same. The other factor is how close you ar to the screen which is why I say even 42" i nsome cases. At a certain distance, you can't see the detail difference anyway.

So for 4K to really matter you would have to be watchign a 100" screen and only be 10 feet away. If you are watchign a 65" screen at 15 feet or so (average living room size?) you will not notice any difference between 1080P and 2160P.

The technology will only be usefull on massive displays. I've been an early adopter of A/V technology in the past, specially DVD and Blu along with the equipment that goes along with it. But... I don't see myself upgrading TV and player to 4k simply becasue it makes absolutely no sense.

Huge cost and no benefit, whats the point?

I agree, unless you buy some 100 inch plus screen in the future, 4K is going to be pretty useless. Sure it will be grand when 100-150 inch screens come out and they are 2-3 grand, but that's not going to happen for quite some time and in the current economy, even longer.
