Ronee Blakley is awesome in Nashville. Oddly enough there is NO mention of her on the cast credits Criterion page though her image is on the films page :-)
Most will know Ronee as Nancy's alcoholic mother in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and most recently on BLU from TT's The Driver. Also love Barbara Harris singing It Dont Worry Me. |

Nashville fans should definitely check out this book on the film's shooting and legacy, it was an entertaining and informative read.

Altman's masterpiece and one of the greatest films ever made. The best movie of 1975 (yes, over Cuckoo's Nest; what a slate of Best Picture nominees that year). I really didn't ever expect Criterion to release it.
We must be doing something right... Last edited by movielib; 09-16-2013 at 09:53 PM. |

It don't worry me, it'll be a day-one purchase. I hope it will be followed by Altman's COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME someday. JIMMY DEAN has never been released on DVD.

I'm really looking forward to this release. Having more Altman movies in Blu is always a plus especially when the movie is great. I'm happy it got the Criterion treatment as it deserves it. My only major issue is that like many Criterion releases we're yet again not getting the theatrical poster. Why do we keep getting these pretentious and artsy covers?

What is pretentious and/or artsy about the Nashville cover? It's actually quite clever - an American flag with the stars (sorry) representing the stripes. The cover captures the film cleanly and concisely: an ensemble piece about America(na).

I'm sorry but it just comes of as artsy. I do agree that it does convey what the film is about but still... I just prefer the original poster over these indie/hipster art we keep getting.

I typically agree, but to be quite honest, I'm disappointed right now that Criterion isn't selling that artwork as a poster on their website. I love it.

I agree with the disliking of recent Criterion cover art (this one not necessarily as much as others). City Lights and Badlands are especially disappointing in my esteem. The image Criterion was using for City Lights' cover on their Hulu channel was much, much better. Ah well...
Still, it's the movie for which I buy the disc and, in that regard, Criterion can NOT be beat! I will happily ugrade my DVD of this come December! --Ben |
