The more I hear about this, the less interested I get. Trank is such an interesting choice for the material, but it doesn't seem like Fox is really interested in trying to do it justice. It shows with the rotating door of screen writers on the project. We'll have to wait and see how it turns out...But I'm not feeling this at all right now.

Yeah, it looks like the new FF will be the FF in Highschool or something. All young people. Certainly these guys are not physicists and astronauts.

I'm guessing we are getting a very different origin story here.

Quote:
Simon Kinberg is currently polishing the script for the upcoming "Fantastic Four" reboot at 20th Century Fox.

Today, a shortlist of potential candidates to play some of the key characters has popped up over at Variety.

First up, Saoirse Ronan ("The Host") and Kate Mara ("House of Cards") are being tested for Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Girl). Actress Margot Robbie was also linked but will not be testing.

Next is Kit Harington ("Game of Thrones"), Jack O’Connell ("Skins") and Miles Teller ("The Spectacular Now") who are all reportedly getting test offers to read for the role of Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic).

"Fruitvale Station" and "Chronicle" actor Michael B. Jordan is the only name currently being mentioned for Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch).

No names have yet been mentioned for the role of the villain or Ben Grimm (aka the Thing).

Josh Trank helms the franchise reboot which is aiming to use this group of rising young stars and hopefully build a franchise around them.

Kinberg, Gregory Goodman and Matthew Vaughn are producing.

I thought Allison Williams was going to be Sue Storm
I think she'd do a good job.

because people whined about the other two. And will now continue to whine about the newer ones cause they all asked for a reboot.

Moral of the story. Be careful of what you wish you.

If Fox doesn't begin production on a Fantastic Four movie by a specific date their option rights will expire and revert back to Marvel and Disney. It already happened with Daredevil.

It's the same reason Fox keeps churning out X-Men movies, and why Sony rebooted Spider-Man.

What kind of makes me think is----- the fact that the guy has exactly one movie under his belt and then gets what could be a career making (or breaking) chance and he seems determined to hire Jordan for the Human Torch role.

Seriously, he has 1 movie credit and he is already so attached to the handful of actors he has worked for that they seems no discussion of any other actors for the part. He's already at the stage where he has a cadre of actors he 'prefers' to work with?

Fox blew this once by handing what should be an epic tent pole to a director with no experience in the genre and now after one minor hit they are doing it again it seems.

And the FF has been around for 52 years and the version they decide to use is the most recent 'younger hipper' version.

All the folks who read the comic from 1961 to the 2000s are gonna get the version that's currently 'popular' even though comic readership is a fraction of what it was in the 1960s.

When I go to these comic book based movies---I see a large segment of the audience is middle-age---higher than for most modern non comic based action movies.

Do they care about all the people who grew up with middle age Richards and Grimm and had no problem with it when they were young?

How exactly does the young Fantastic Four gain super powers? The older crew ran into an incident in space just like in the movie didn't they? Does the Marvel universe have teenage astronauts? I hope not, because that is lame...

I only just started reading Ultimate Fantastic Four, but in that Reed is part of a young genius think tank at the Baxter Building, working on teleporting objects through the negative zone. The quartet (and Doom) are exposed while unprotected during an experiment which Doom sabotaged.

It might be the "new hotness" but I'm really liking it so far.

So once again Doom gets powers in same way/same time as FF?

That sounds decent enough.

Will it annoy fans if the "new" reason becomes the "official" reason in the film series? I think the beauty of these comic book movies, regarding canon, is that it is already established canon that they occur in multiple universes. The MCU is simply not Earth-616. Problem solved!

Rumor: Michael B. Jordan has officially signed on to play Human Torch in Josh Trank's Fantastic Four

Like Aaron Taylor-Johnson possibly playing Quicksilver in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, Michael B. Jordan has been rumored to play Johnny Storm AKA Human Torch for months, with nothing official coming from Fox saying the actor will appear in Josh Trank's reboot. Still no word from the studio (thus the word "rumor" in the headline), but according to Schmoes Know, Jordan has agreed to star in THE FANTASTIC FOUR. A source from Michael B. Jordan's agency has told the site that he has indeed signed on to play Human Torch for Fox.
Michael B. Jordan is currently one of the most in demand young actors working today. The FRUITVALE STATION star has also been rumored for a part in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, and he might play Apollo Creed's grandson in the ROCKY spin-off CREED. Jordan previously worked with Josh Trank on CHRONICLE, and many expected him to reteam with the director for THE FANTASTIC FOUR, so it's been a matter of "when" and not "if" the actor would officially sign. But we can't call this a lock until we hear something from Fox, and I wouldn't be surprised if we heard something from the studio later today.
But who will be joining Michael B. Jordan, if he has signed on? The latest rumor was several actors had tested for Mr. Fantastic (Kit Harington, Miles Teller, Jack O'Connell) and Sue Storm (Kate Mara, Saoirse Ronan, Margot Robbie), and Terry Crews has expressed interest in playing The Thing. Who would you like to see star with Michael B. Jordan in THE FANTASTIC FOUR?
THE FANTASTIC FOUR is scheduled to hit theaters on March 6th, 2015

hmmmmm

They are going for the High School FF, from what I've heard.

While I don't mind that with Human Torch; I think the other three (especially Reed and Ben) need to be in their late 20s early 30s.
