That comment just reminded me. If Shout can make another deal with MGM, they should get the film with Suspiria/Phantom of the Paradise actress, Jessica Harper: Inserts.

Consider you could just buy the "Candyman" special edition DVD at Wal-Mart for $5 all through-out October, and it includes 2 or 3 featurettes and an audio commentary, I'm very happy with it.

If anyone was going to release it would probably be Twilight Time, but I wouldn't bite, I'm much happy with the DVD really.

Scream Factory CAN get Candyman.
Sony licenses out films all the time.
They just, at this time, do not allow the production of new bonus features.

Solution?
Only grab up the decked out films with already existing dvd Special Editions, like Candyman.

So you see my way of thinking...

Christine (once TT loses the rights)
Candyman
Vampires
TCM:TNG
A world of possibilities...

If Sony wouldn't allow "Shout!/Scream" to produce any new bonus materials for a movie like "Candyman" I would prefer Twilight Time just take it and the extras it already has and release it. The "Candyman" SE DVD isn't exactly what I would call "decked out" as far as bonus materials go. I mean it has a commentary which is nice and two featurettes and the longer of the two is only 20 some short minutes, the other one is even shorter.

If "Shout!/Scream" were to get a title like "Candyman" people would want some kind of a current like this year new retrospective on it. The features on it are 10 years old now.

It was bad enough when Universal didn't want them making new alternate cover artwork for the "Psycho" movies, can you imagine the pain in the ass it would be for them to go through the trouble of getting "Candyman" and not being able to do anything new for supplements? Just get the SE DVD while it's still available, like I said I paid $5 for it brand new and after seeing the featurettes on it, this would be worth buying again under the "Scream Factory" banner with all the same supplements and nothing new.

Okay, but keep in mind, do you really want these titles in the near future if Sony doesn't change it's minds on not letting other people produce new supplements? If "Shout!/Scream" were to get anything from Sony I would want them to do new supplements to go with whatever else exists. Otherwise, the old SE DVD releases or Twilight Time discs are sufficient enough. I kinda think it would be a waste for "Shout!/Scream" they like to be involved and give people something different and new, Sony won't allow it.

Hope we can get a Scream Factory release of Watchers starring the late great Corey Haim in 2014. I'm not sure who currently has the rights, but Universal distributed the movie theatrically in 1988 and Artisan handled the distribution of the dvd in 2004. The Artisan dvd has been long out of print. If the rights reverted back to Universal, then Watchers shouldn't be a problem for Scream to pick up at some point if they haven't already.

Universal's rights may have been for theatrical distibution only. All home video distribution in the US has been handled through Lionsgate's predecessors such as IVE and Artisan. The film may have been part of the Carolco film library which was purchased by Canal + (StudioCanal) in 1996. If that's the case, US distribution rights would still probably be go through Lionsgate.

It'd be in HD! That right there is enough of a reason alone. HD on Blu-ray.

Now, the dvd is perfectly fine, a little dated, but fine.
Just updating it to HD would be worth it enough, not that they should get it if they can't make new extras.

Extras are just that... EXTRA!

Yet they can for TV shows like All In The Family and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman (in addition to the Mr. Magoo Theatrical Collection...hopefully). Weird.

What if Sony help produced or co-produce new extras for their movies should they sub-license one to Shout/Scream?

Yes, for some reason they don't mind with tv shows.

There's a region-free UK Blu-Ray out there of Candyman from Universal (Sony only handles distribution of the film in the US). Granted it has no extras but I wonder if it would impact a company like TT or Shout deciding to release it considering it's so cheap and plays on any US player. When you're a small company trying to get every sale to count, the fact it's readily available and hardcore fans of the movie may have bought it already might factor in (this probably applies more to TT than Shout).

I wonder whether The Boogey Man (1980) is a possibility? Anchor Bay used to have the rights but appear to not have renewed the rights for for a number of their titles recently. And there's a HD master available in Germany.

Re: The Boogeyman:

Anybody heard about this? It appears to be a US release of The Boogey on BD?

From the look of the other titles available, it seems to be Ulli Lommel's personal site or at least connected to him in some way. I wonder whether it's really available to order straight from him? It doesn't show up at any of the e-tailers I have searched.

I am sure it is just a rip of the German release.

Does Scream ship their newer releases in better envelopes? I bought a couple during the Price is Fright sale and received broken cases, bent artwork, so I would pre order a few items to get the posters only if they came mint.

They're shipped via the same method.

I think that Scream Factory, since they are branching into more new titles, should try and be more like my favorite studio for modern horror, Magnet.

Just look at what they have out out in the past five years alone:
Return to Sleepaway Camp
Hobo With a Shotgun
John Dies at the End
Kiss of the Damned
The ABCs of Death
Bad Milo
VHS
The Innkeepers
Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil
Survival of the Dead
The House of the Devil
the absolutely horrendous Rubber
And that's just for starters.

Try to pick some up like these.
