Default 'Terminator' TV Series In The Works That Will Tie Into The Upcoming Reboot

Quote:
Even though America said, "No thanks, we'd rather not watch the 'Sarah Connor Chronicles.' " Even though as a franchise, "The Terminator" films stopped being worth watching in 1991, Megan Ellison and Hollywood are convinced that you really want more. So, they've reupped Arnold Schwarznegger to once again lumber around against the laws the physics and everything we know about the human body, for a reboot coming in 2015, that will kick off a new trilogy. But it seems that's not all....

"Thor" and "X-Men: First Class" writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller have been tapped to write a new "Terminator" TV series that will criss-cross with the new movie. We'll let THR explain:

The TV series will follow a critical moment from the first Terminator film (1984) and, where the film's story goes one way, the upcoming series will take the same moment in a completely different direction. As the rebooted film trilogy and the new TV series progress, the two narratives will intersect with each other in some surprising and dramatic ways.

So....we'll say this at least, it's ambitious. But can it work? This plan presumes a network greenlight and also pre-supposes that an audience is going to be interested enough to see how it all plays out. And one only has to look at "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." — which has seen ratings drop each week, despite faint ties to the movie-verse and years worth of multiplex worldbuilding — to see that even the biggest franchise in the world doesn't guarantee small screen success. In short: movie and TV audiences can be very different beasts.

And then there's the question of whether or not this can creatively hit the mark — referencing a nearly 30 year-old movie with a story thread that will trail in two different directions and then intersect later....again, it's really going to have to be brilliant and fully satisfying to work. So, we'll see how this goes. Certainly, it makes the lead up to July 1, 2015 a bit more interesting.

Even though America said, "No thanks, we'd rather not watch the 'Sarah Connor Chronicles.'

And then they regretted it when Season 2 was epic.

Bah! Bring back Sarah Connor I say, that season finale was mind blowingly awesome.

This shows that Fox misjudged Season 2 of Sarah Connor Chronicles....to go back to the well, once again for another reboot to then cancel it by Season 2... well, this is Fox we are talking about.

This whole idea of rebooting Terminator is so very "meh" to me. But somebody bought the license, and damn it if they aren't going to try to make some money off it! Well, that's their right, I suppose. I think they'd have better luck getting blood from a turnip than taking this franchise in an interesting direction. Afterall, the last time they did that, the TV show got canceled leaving us hanging with an insanely cool cliffhanger. Frankly, I'm surprised there's as much fan goodwill as there is these days.

The sarah connor chronicles was the best thing in the Terminator franchise since T2. I believe Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller wrote for that show, so I have a lot of confidence in this new show. Now if only they'd get some actors back from the sarah connor chronicles, and maybe address some plot points from that series.

Sorry what? I know the Save TSCC website went for Annapurna after they bought the rights so they know damn well there's interest in continuing TSCC. Everyones pretty much been in agreement that rebooting the series just as it got to the future war, i.e the only interesting thing in the series anymore, was also a stupid idea. It seems like Annapurna is only interested in doing the opposite of what everyone wants to pay money to see.

I didn't like the Sarah Connor Chronicles and I am not liking the idea of the reboot but I will see what they will make of this.

Indeed we did.

That's because the average person tuned in to see Iron Man, Hulk, etc and instead got people in suits. There's no surprise that the show is dying.

Fox really decided that for everyone didn't they? After they shoved in a mid season break during the 2nd season and reshuffled it in the schedule the viewing figures dropped nearly 2 million and stayed that way, which always happens and it's pretty much what a studio does to have the excuse to can a show. It always remained pretty consistent in the figures though, but when it came time to choose whether to renew TSCC or Dollhouse they picked Dollhouse, even though it had slightly lower ratings and way lower review scores, because it was cheaper to make. The Dollhouse got canned after it's second season because it sucked the big one.

I tuned in to see SHIELD, but I got a Saturday morning cartoon version of Homeland instead.

You know what? That sounds pretty damned good compared to the actual MAoS show.

Not sure about this yet after having The Sarah Connor Chronicles taken away. I know Fox isn't doing this, but I was pretty attached to that show and I'm not sure I want to bother with another Terminator show.
