The cloverfield concept has infinite sequels already built into it.

It was designed with the idea that there were tons of people running around with camcorders that night. So...in essence, we could have the same movie....with different parties involved...for the next 200 years.

I honestly hope they don't do that though.

I'm not even looking for a deal on this one. I'm going to BestBuy and buying it and watching it immediately. I don't want to wait this time.

like others have said, these 2 will release on june 3rd. Paramount has way too many titles being released on the 20th. Plus they need to space out there releases just a little bit. No reason to throw out all their titles on day one.

My point is that with the way Paramount sold themselves out, they should be asking begging Amazon and other retailers for reasonable pricing, price points below the competition. Again, Fox can kinda justify the price given the quality of their titles, but I for one will not pay $27.95 for a catalog release. I might pay that for a new release, but I will never pay that price for a release that was delayed by a company who *****d themselves during the format war.
The issue at the base of this argument appears to be "catalog" titles. When I used to work at Blockbuster, movies were considered "New Releases" for around 18 months.... 18 MONTHS! It's simple... new releases cost more (for the consumer) to rent, regardless of the medium. They also cost more for the retailer/distributor to display & hold rental licenses for.

What I'm trying to say is, I would think the studio would determine when a film is considered "catalog" versus "new release". This was released less than 1 month ago on sDVD. I don't think anyone would consider this a "catalog title" by June 3rd...

It'll be June 3rd. It said so in the press release. But the first paragraph said that Paramount would begin releasing on May 20th which is why there's all this odd confusion. Most people didn't get to the paragraph about Cloverfield and There Will Be Blood.

As for the people who are looking for some sort of "special" price. I think these people just are upset with Paramount and don't understand what a new release is compared to a catalog title. As it's been explained, and as you can see at a local best buy if you're observant enough, New Releases are actually considered new releases for quite some time. Just because a title didn't get released day and date with the DVD, doesn't automatically make it a catalog title. I personally don't think they should lower their prices on There Will Be Blood or Cloverfield. They're new releases and are priced as such. This has nothing to do with Fox or anything like that either. And if you want Paramount to make up for their switch, just look for high quality picture and sound on their releases along with all the features from their DVD's (which is something Fox doesn't even do).

My Cloverfield pre-order at Amazon has an arrival date of May 22nd. Take that for what you will, but it lends credence to the May 20th date.

It's the first week of the Blu-Ray though, not the DVD. Most places I go to don't even put Blu-Rays on sale the first week. They're always just the regular price. There's probably been a hanful of times where a $34.99 movie was $29.99 for its first week. If you have a problem with paying full price, order from Amazon.com.

Wal-mart.com has Cloverfield for pre-order at $19.99. The printout is all I need for either my Best Buy or Circuit City to price match.

Sounds like a sale price to me.

Is that the page that has the HD DVD artwork on it? My best buy and circuit city wont price match. And Wal Mart wont price match their site. And that's not a sale, that's their regular online price. Just like $18 is their price for I Am Legend.
