My only question to you would be, what type of display are you using? I only ask because both of these titles have great video transfers and top notch PQ on my setup. And let's not even mention the audio.

the set up I have is what my signature says.
I dont know why people knock smaller HDTV's you save money and bluray still kicks major ass on it.

Spider-man 3, the descent and House of 1000 corpses blew me away. They looked BEAUTIFUL.

I really dont know too much about connection/wires and all the specific things about Blu-ray yet.
I have the basic cables that came with the bluray player. I believe they are a step down from HDMI (which apparently gives the best picture)
I am happy with bluray, just disapointed by these 2 movies.

im sorry if this sounds frank, but first off your HDTV is only 720p, your mising half the resolution of the movie, so after seeing only half the image, i don't see how you can comment on the movies, second, you aren't even using hdmi, and third the contrast ratio is so low on an element HDTV that anything with a lot of dark scenes is going to look like crap.

sorry if i sound like a dick, but thats just the way it is.

Not true at all!!!! When I watched The Descent and Identity, most of the film is in a dark environment, Yet the darker images looked fantastic. I was blown away at how clear images can be in a dark atmosphere.

No offense, but you're watching Blu-Rays on a small, low-end 720p TV and not using a HDMI connection. Of course the BDs don't look so good.

Start by getting yourself a HDMI cable.

I just checked on Crutchfield of what comes in the box (S300). It says composite cables. No mention of Component or HDMI.

From Crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...0&i=158BDPS300
Quote:
What's in the box?

Download owner's manual

* Single-disc Blu-ray disc player
* 78" AC power cord
* RMT-B101A wireless remote control
* 2 "AA" batteries
* 58" Composite video cable (has an RCA connector on each end)
* 5' Stereo RCA patch cord
* Owner's Manual
* On-line product registration information
* Note about first time start-up
* Note about BD-Java
* HDMI connection note
* Warranty information
Are you using the red/white/ and yellow cables???
