Real estate is very precious under my big TV right now. I had to box up my XBOX, even though I have some XBOX games that the 360 cannot play.

There's always room for the little slim PS2.

While I think the real reason for Sony taking out BC is to simply cut manufacturing costs, there could be another reason.

Been on the PSN store lately? See the PSone games? Well why give something for free when you can charge for it?

Yeah there isn't that many PSone games and zero PStwo games. But i believe over time eventually we will see Sony's promise of every PSone and PStwo game available for d/l and for a fee.

Funny thing is if all my games were to become available for d/l and were a decent price (as in a $1 each). I wouldn't hesitate to buy them all again and sell my physical copies. I hate having all my games take up as much space as they do.

I’m sure this is the reason behind Sony taking out BC.
Xbox 360 and Wii already have games downloads. I’m not sure if you’ll see them for a $1, more like $4-$10 like the other consoles.

After all cutting manufacturing costs sounds better than we're taking out BC so we can sell you the games again..

The other day, our Sony rep was in at the store I work at, and he said that they would be adding a lot of old PS2 games to the PlayStation Store, which would be work with the 40GB. So, that's probably a big reason, they want people to fork over more money to download it onto their PS3. Kinda sucks. But he also confirmed that the 80GB version will be returning next month, I think June 12 is the date (with the launch of Metal Gear Solid). So, if you worry about backward capability, then you'll be in luck next month.

For sure, though you have to admit it's devilishly clever since not everyone owns the same games from times past so why not sell it again?

I don't see why you want emulation on a PS2, just keep your old PS2 or pick one up on the cheap. OK space might be an issue.

Also I don't see why there can't be an emulator written for the PS3 which will run PS2 games. Emulators have been written for nearly every console on the PC, shouldn't be too hard to do. Make it a free download on the PSN. But that would be too logical for Sony ...

Have you seen an emulator for PS2/Xbox 1 on PC that runs every game flawlessly yet? No. And there probably never will be one, as it's just people doing it in their free time. Writing emulation software for different hardware architecture is a lot harder than you think. Which is why the 360 BC is pretty limited.

PS1 playback was not taken out of the 40gig. So there goes your theory.

What theory? the 40 gig does not have BC with PStwo and I'm not sure what % it has with PSone.

Sorry guess I should have said Sony is reducing BC to cut costs. There, that politically correct enough for ya?
