I saw this thread last week and mostly figured it was about failing ram. Today I remembered the thing about the price fixing that went on with RAM in the 90s and early 2000s. I then checked out the link. Yeah, it was about the price fixing.
This is a legit lawsuit. The big DRAM manufacturers like Micron, Samsung, Infineon, Hynix, and a bunch of others were doing some MAJOR stuff to jack up the price of ram. They ended up causing consumers to spend billions of extra dollars. Executives from all over the world went to jail over this and many of these companies paid some of the largest anti-trust fines in history. I am so getting in on this. I remember how much money I had to scrap together for RAM back then and how these companies were doing things to jack up the price like crazy. SAMSUNG AGREES TO PLEAD GUILTY AND TO PAY $300 MILLION CRIMINAL FINE FOR ROLE IN PRICE FIXING CONSPIRACY - Korean Company Pays Second Largest Criminal Antitrust Fine in U.S. History Execs go to jail, do not pass go in Samsung DRAM price fixing case FOUR INFINEON TECHNOLOGIES EXECUTIVES AGREE TO PLEAD GUILTY IN INTERNATIONAL DRAM PRICE-FIXING CONSPIRACY - Three German Citizens Face Jail Time in U.S. KOREAN COMPANY--HYNIX--AGREES TO PLEAD GUILTY TO PRICE FIXING AND AGREES TO PAY $185 MILLION FINE FOR ROLE IN DRAM CONSPIRACY - Company Pays Third Largest Antitrust Criminal Fine in History Elpida pleads guilty to colluding with other memory manufacturers to fix the price of DRAM. |

This lawsuit has a pretty bad aura around it. The main appeal is, "Do nothing but give us your personal information, and we'll send you $10. You don't have to show receipts or anything." If you're going to do that, you're looking for free money, and lots of people will promise you free money. These are not the kind of people you'd invite into your home, or let them tinker with your identity on line. Or perhaps you would. Good luck. |

All this thing really is 34 states attorneys generals investigated and sued a dozen or so corporations for price fixing. It isn't some sleazy law firm you see on tv telling you to call them when you get into a car accident who sued. These companies were committing documented proven crimes and as a result people went to jail and these companies all agreed to settle by paying more than a quarter billion dollars in fines. That money is in a pool which gets disbursed to these 34 states attorneys general. If you are a claimant the attorney general in your state sends you a portion of the fines they collected based upon your claims. These companies already cost you and me money either directly or indirectly. There isn't anything sleazy or wrong about filing claim when you were in fact forced to pay higher taxes and fees (this did cost government and corporations money which they of course passed on to you) and higher prices for the things you bought and used.
