Default LG leaving plasma business

Expect a announcement soon (as per Engadget). This truly marks the end of a great technology. I was really hoping they would at least go one more year.

It looks like I'll definitely get a Samsung F8500 this year.

Surprisingly, the F8500 series is still easily available along with the F5300/F5400 (the F5500 is very hard to find since it's a great value). With that said, get it as soon as you can. This wasn't the case with the Panasonic plasma line when the announced that they were leaving the business. They went flying out of stores (not to mention that some retailers dropped the prices of them as well). Maybe that might be the case with the Samsung plasma line (what's left that is). I'm also still ticked off that Samsun cancelled the H7000 3D plasma line.

Looks like I'm one of the final buyers of a new Plasma as well.

LED has its place; it's great for watching the news in a bright room.

Er... yeah.

Lg plasma was never good anyways. Just as well live with crappy LED or wait out for OLED. I always buy a new display every 1 to 2 years but it look like i will hang onto my Panny 60VT60.

You buy a new HDTV every 1 to 2 years, even though it's not necessary? What are you trying to do, keep up with The Joneses?

I just bought a 51 inch F4500. It is freaking awesome. Although I sorta can't afford an F8500 , I'm willing to cut my budget to the bone in order to get one because it is even better than what I have now.

How often do many replace their phones, buy a new car etc. People have different priorities. I hate this notion that one must be irresponsible (which is what you said heavily implies) because they spent money in a way that someone else does not approve of.

Do you buy a expensive tv every couple of years? They either:

A. Have a six figure plus job

or

B. Live at home with mom &/or dad and pay no bills

If it wasn't anybody's concern, he wouldn't have mentioned it! So therefore he made it everybody's business.
