A price cut and a new SKU are in order IMO but not at the same time. Price cut first, before Xmas, then a new SKU after called the 'Enthusiast PS3' with a bigger HDD and controversially more XDR, something like 512MB instead of 256MB as this is the single biggest drawback for people putting Linux onto the system. The extra XDR will of course not be available to game developers as it would create a split in the install base.

The new SKU would be priced at current levels as I think that many enthusiasts are willing to pay $600 for a Cell powered Linux workstation, and maybe Sony and Nvidia could remove the Hypervisor as well for the people on the 'enthusiast' box. Sony would make a profit on the hardware and will not need game subsidies for the purchase to make sense so they could remove the hypervisor without it effecting their bottom line too much
