Shouldn't PQ and SQ be the main reason to pick a player?

So we actually have a case where the PS3 actually sounded worse than a standalone while doing the decoding internally!
This would open the door to the possibility that having the decoding done externally by optimally designed equipment to be the potentially superior solution!
(my take all along, but fiercely disputed here.)
