Default CES 2008: Panasonic DMP-BD50 BDLive Player

Panasonic have announced a BDLive player with TrueHD and DTS-MA internal decoding. Excellent!

I am really excited too. Certainly worthy to replace my DMP-BD10.

I don't really care so much about BDLive but the audio codecs are essential.

Looks almost the same as the BD30. Which is, y'know, good.

Since it's a step up from the BD30, I think it will. I also don't see this retailing for more then $699.99.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they'll drop the DMP-BD30 down to $399, and release the DMP-BD50 at $699.

If you already have the BD30 and a receiver that doesTrueHD and DTS-MA internal decoding, is this a step up? or more for people that don't have a newer receiver that is HDMI 1.3?

When I bought two new BD30's, I also bought two Pioneer elites that will do the True HD and DTS-MA decoding

The only thing I can think of is if there is some mixing needed for the PiP. Otherwise it should be equivalent. The big bonus is for those of us who do not have the receivers or any intention of going there any time soon...

I'm willing to pay up to $700 for it, as it would save me from getting a new amp (and there's nothing wrong with my Yamaha, even though it's not HDMI).

And I wouldn't ever connect my player to the internet, so the 2.0 spec isn't important to me. Full audio decoding, of course, is essential.

And I'm willing to bet that it can even decode Resident Evil 3's THD audio.

Bravo, Panny!

I have the Panny BD30 and it suits my needs because I have a new receiver that can handle hdmi and 7.1. But for those that need internal decoding or desire bd live. This will probably be a great bd player, but I wonder if it will also bitstream the advanced codecs.
