Oh that's cool. Would have been nice if they could do that.

The FX house they hired, Associates and Ferren, were so incompetent they couldn't even handle simple space shots.

Look at the Generations and First Contact teaser trailers - they used VFX upconverted from SD video from TNG since they didn't have any finished ILM FX to show. *Those* look better than what we got from Ferren! They should have hired Image G to do the motion control shots if they couldn't do it right.

Default Golly gee wiz - now I've done it!

Well, I just purchased something that I really wasn't planning on getting in the first place. Yeah, I ordered myself a copy of Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition The Complete Adventure. First, I saw that Number_6 had posted that this set was still available at Deep Discount. Then I read Geoff D's most excellent review of the Star Trek: The Motion Picture Special Longer Version 4K UHD. Finally, today I received an e-mail from Deep Discount that informed me of a 15% off promo code ("LEAVES") and that tipped me over the edge into buying this particular set. Yup, I'm a collector - I collect things. But I'm a Trekker first!!!

No oversized box or a single air cushion from MU for me. They shipped it in a LP-sized, virtually flat cardboard mailer and it's crushed on every single corner. Someone might as well have stepped on it. What a waste.

It is rare for me to cancel an order with Amazon, but my pre-order placed on July 17th showed no sign of movement, so cancel I did.

I made the 55 mile trip to my nearest Best Buy in a neighboring state and purchased it there. I found my motivation after all. They had only two copies and neither were on display. An employee brought both copies out from their stockroom and he told me to choose which one I wanted. I chose the one that had a nearly perfect package.

Now to pry the discs out of those damnable cardboard sleeves without scratching them and transfer them to the protective plastic sleeves recommended by forum member Bolty. My quest to obtain this set comes to a (hopefully happy) end.

Edit: All discs were unscratched, but that interior most cardboard sleeve with the Director's Edition 4K disc had a vice grip on the disc. The outer page with the two disc slots were much easier to remove the discs from. The anti-static plastic sleeves that I transferred the discs into work beautifully and they easily fit right back into the original cardboard sleeves. I did decide to relocate the blu-ray extra features disc into that super tight interior card board sleeve as I will watch it the least often.

Got the complete adventures from UK and the outer cover was crushed on the bottom. Not a huge deal but annoying. I was miffed that there was no slipcover in the package and yet they had so much cardboard crap and pictures. I never really looked at what they were adding other than the discs and it's a real shame a slip wasn't there. Now I'm going to need to get the regular 4k with slip to match the other 5! They really screwed up this release imo.

Ordered 2-6 individually through DD for $18 a pop. It would have been $17 but for stupid state sales tax!

If I want to see TMP DC on bluray, the only way to do that is the boxset correct? The individual release of TMP is 4k only?

There's a standard Blu-ray available separately; it's just not included with the standalone 4K for some reason.

If I don't want to miss out on the slip covers, what are the chances that Target will have their B2G1 sale before they're all gone?

Mine arrived, slipcover damaged a bit. Amazon shipped it in what is basically a plastic bag.

Paramount figures if you're buying the 4K then you just need the 4K - why include a disc that won't be played? You could just stream in 1080p if needed, hence the digital copy *not* included with the UK version that does have the BD versions.

There's a difference between "greed" and "cost savings". This is one of the latter.

My UK Complete Adventure still hasn't updated since the 6th. So much for the priority shipping.

Whaddya mean?? It's EXACTLY like the climax! Didn't you think of the titles during the climax?

Sure, that's true enough. I thought you meant the titles themselves, which are pretty simple.

Honestly I still wouldn't trust sliding the discs back in, even in sleeves. They're still a super-tight fit, and sleeves are never an ideal method of storage. Any bits of debris that finds their way into the sleeves can scratch the disc surface. I'd put them in an external case. I know that's annoying and I hate having to do that, especially since i can't really print nice case art, but it's better than taking a chance every time I slide the discs out again. My Lost In Space box uses hideously tight built-in cardboard sleeves, and once I gently wrestled them out, I swore I'd never put them back in again. So they're in a set of 6-disc cases now, safe and sound.

The climax is all silvery and white, not gold which just looks tacky AF

And Paramount is wrong for some of us. I've explained many times why somebody might buy the 4k and still want the blu-ray. Future-proofing by buying the 4k but don't own 4k equipment yet; want the blu-ray in case the UHD turns out to be problematic (Halloween II's UHD has a glitch but the new blu-ray included doesn't); it's nice to have blu-rays to lend to friends, or to take over a friend's house if they don't have 4k equipment.

The studios were including DVDs for ages along with blu-rays. And DVDs have been outdated for a decade-and-a-half. At least blu-rays are still HD and look great upscaled on 4k TVs. They're not obsolete.
