Prices are ok if you know how to shop. The only prices I ever pay for retail is Disney releases. They never seem to go on sale unless you live in the States and go to ToysRUs for Bugs Life.

As long as you check your ads, and pay attention to sales, you can pick up most of the titles you need for cheap.

I'm actually pretty content for the catalog titles. Seems you can get many at retail for around $15 if you are patient. I'd still like to see the list drop to about $25/$20.

New releases are still much too expensive. I think a new release should top at $34.95.

Yeah, $28-$30 is too high for many people. New releases should stay under $25. Catalog titles should be under $20.

But if you're patient and shop around, you can find deals.

Catalog titles are getting better, although I'd prefer to see more in the $14.99 range.

New releases and Disney catalog titles need to go down about $5-10.

Amazon.com year round.
Fry's during Christmas vacation. I go into BestBuy but never get anything, too pricey.

Sometimes I buy at stores in Taipei, but I have to pay around 30 dollars US for a movie (they have Mandarin subtitles for wife, so it's okay). One shop will give me 10% off if I buy 5 or 6 at a time.

When I saw T2-Skynet Edition at $14.99 a couple months after its release, I can't help but think prices are getting lower, which is great. Just wish more US releases had Chines subtitles.

I think prices on older titles are at about what they should be. New releases really arent that much more either. The blu-ray is usually about 3-4 dollars more than the 2 disc special edition dvd of any movie, which makes sense since you are getting a better product. Does anyone remember when DVDs were this price? I do.

Recently ordered Jeff Beck and Diana Krall, 16.49 each, both have been out a very short time. When I first starting buying Blu-rays last November, I never thought I'd be picking up new release for less than 20 bucks half a year later.

Lovin' it.

And both Beck and Krall are just $2.48 more than the DVDs. It's nice to know we aren't getting completly hosed by buying a new format. It makes it easier to convert others. I feel like a Blu-mormon, "Have you heard the good news?" I'm going to get my PS3 and copy of Blade Runner and Baraka and start knocking on the neighbors' doors.

I noticed wen Crank 2 came out the BD was 3 bucks more than the DVD version. That was with the BD on sale at Hastings. A few BD's I want are $19.99 so I think prices are decent, except for new releases that are $29.99 or like The Nightmare Before Christmas which was $36.99.

Catalog prices are plummeting right now, which is great. Compare the prices on Amazon now to what they were just a year ago and you'll be amazed at how far prices have dropped.

I think the "blu-ray is too expensive" argument is gonna be pretty moot by this time next year, if it isn't already....

I've seen a nice drop in prices here for BD. If you shop around you can find the best price possible.

I still find anime (I am a huge fan) to be high, I wish it would drop a bit more.

IMO, I think prices are still high. They should lower them in stores. I mean they wonder why people are not buying. For god's sake, does Bedtime Stories worth $34.99
That is what they have it at Futureshop, who the hell will pay $34.99 for a movie like that.

After the initial rush of buying blurays when I first got my PS3 (replacing some of my DVDs of my favorite movies) I know wait until prices go down. One exception is steelbook. For example I got TF2 yesterday on day one since the steel will be sold out soon.
Wolverine for example is a movie I'm planning to buy but once it drops in price.

Everything drops in price anyway so I would not mind waiting. Two weeks ago I bought Hellboy II for $14.99 (price drop) now it is back to its original price of $28.99.
Same goes for The Incredible Hulk, I got it for $14.99 and then it went back to $32.99 and I think now it is back again to $14.99

It was $24.99 on release week.

Default Canadians buy from Amazon.com!

"Oh Canada,
Your prices are so high,
True you have GST, in all your super-stores
At the register, prices rise
The truth is nothings free."

Lived in Canada for around 20 years, prices compared to the States are too high, except medical. Loved going to visit family in the States when I was younger just for shopping. My mom is back in the States now, and my sister is married and has set up roots in Canada, and I did the same in Taiwan. A lot of our shopping is done via Mom. Now I love going to visit my mom, for the food and shopping.

Standard shipping from Amazon isn't that bad for Blu-rays, eh! Around $8 for the first and $4 for each additional. Just ordered 5, shipping was $25, discs were $77, $102 for 5 discs is great, about 20 dollars each, Taiwan's prices are 25-35 USD/disc. Similar to Canuck prices. I was sending them, for free, to my mom and then she just hung on to them until she had a package, or I went to visit. Lately, I can't wait and prices are still better than Taiwan's with shipping included.

But...Just sent my sister some books for my my nieces B-days. $52 for books (b3g1) and $46 for shipping to the Great White North. Sent them to my mom and she will ship them to my sister. It won't cost here 46 bucks to send 12 soft cover children's books.

I have never had customs tax me on anything coming into Taiwan. But I know Canada is different. My grandma sent us a Nintendo for Christmas and I remember my parents were annoyed how much they had to pay to get it from the post office. Almost as much as a 2-4 and a cartoon of smokes. Back when a 2-4 was around 24 bucks.

I would say the prices are getting a lot better. I remember when I bought my first blu-ray movies right when blu-ray came out. It was black hawk down and it cost me $30 at bestbuy, for a catalog title. Now, you can get catalog titles from bestbuy for 19.99, still not the cheapest, but I am willing to live with that price for a catalog title that I want, you can even find some for $13 there. New releases are running at $25 for the first week which works for me because the dvd is only usually $5 cheaper. Prices will continue to drop but I feel that prices are good and I have no problem picking up a couple of movies each week to increase my already large blu collection

The prices are not to shabby right now. They are getting better. With few exceptions, I do not think we can complain.
