Actually I heard rumours that Criterion might release a blu ray boxset containing: They Came From Within (aka Shivers), Rabid, The Brood, and Scanners. Shivers has always looked pretty rough, so if in fact Criterion does get their hands on it, I'd be really anxious to check out the transfer!

Really??? Sorry, I didn't know that. I just assumed stores across North America would stock them. Bummer! Maybe they're available to order online? Best of luck! It's a terrific secondary/back up player.

Any chance that these will include the UK Anchor Bay DVD extras:
Scanners Inside Scan: Scanners The Directors: David Cronenberg Documentary Scanners 2 Inside Scan: The New Order Scanners 3 Inside Scan: The Takeover I'd like to be able to get rid of the DVDs and although the Inside Scan featurettes are around 10 minutes, it'd be nice to have them on the new releases and the David Cronenberg documentary is an hour long |

Think I'll give this a miss.
Never been a fan of Scanners 2 and 3...they are simply terrible, on the other hand, the Original Scanners is a classic, and I have owned it on DVD for many years...but to be honest I'm annoyed that they are just releasing it as a Steelbook...would have been nice to see a regular Blu-ray release. I actually liked Scanners II. I blind bought all three films because the original was a film I'd always wanted to see and I expected the sequels to be stupid-but-fun entertainment. However, I thought Scanners II was genuinely decent. I can't say the same for the third film, though. It was rubbish.

Another vote for Scanners II. Scanners III on the other hand is all kinds of bad and has no redeeming qualities whatsoever (someone could probably turn it into a drinking game to get some buzz from it...).
I'd like to see Scanner Cop II get a blu-ray release at some point, much like Scanners II it is one of the more entertaining entries in the franchise and Patrick Kilpatrick does an excellent baddie scanner. The first Scanner Cop is a forgettable affair (one of franchise producer Pierre David's few writer/directorial efforts), not as bad as Scanners III mind you but it could have been a lot better. This one is just 'meh'. |

I noticed the Scanners review was up and it mentioned that the Australian release has different extra features. These are the ones that were on the Anchor Bay DVD release
I'm trying to decide whether to get that release as well to have those special features in HD |

I am not a big fan of David Cronenberg films but want to get Scanners. I originally wanted to get the Criterion BD based on the higher ratings here but when I looked at the Beaver comparison images, the Second Sight release from the UK seemed much better. The Criterion images were too dark and the skin tones better depicted in the UK version. I was looking at the images on my LG monitor which is accurate when it comes to what the picture would look like on my LCD TV.
Any advice from the others about which edition to go for? I am not a double-dipper. |
