Why the hell would anyone even pay for this? I'm not even trying to "troll". This genuinely makes no sense. This show is available to watch on reruns everywhere with antenna TV and on Netflix in HD (despite streaming not looking the best). It's one thing to experience a movie or something of a much bigger budget on the big screen with added theatrical surround immersion and betterbquality than anything else truly giving you an experience.
But what the HELL does Friends on a movie theater give you?
I'm being genuinely honest, and if someone can tell me and explain I'll gladly change my mind.
I was gonna say.... does a sitcom TV show have to be shown in a theater? Hey, if they can get people to throw money at them for this then more power to them.

No, but the content is also extremely old and available for free or on disc like everywhere and even with a decent home setup I think you can get your Friends fill. But, maybe not. As I said, if they can get people to pay to watch this then you can only marvel at the genius marketing team that roped these people in.

the blu ray's looked really good so i dont see why it would look bad on big screen. they should transfer the extended cuts of the episodes for the screenings and remove the original audience laughs, so it wouldnt distract from the audience in theaters laughing along. might be annoying as well

Friends was shot on film so unlike many TV shows, it will look great.

As others have said, this is clearly about creating a shared experience for fans to laugh and revel in some nostalgia together. People pay to watch old movies with much lesser cultural cachet than Friends on the big screen so I really don't get what the problem is.

You're missing the point completely and utterly. Again: Why do people go and see - if Friends is "extremely old", lol - positively ancient "content" on the big screen that's "available for free or on disc everywhere" or can be pirated as easy as breathing? Alien is 40 years old, I sure do wonder why all those other people turned up to that anniversary screening that I attended?

Jesus Christ, it's no wonder the likes of Netflix are having so much joy with their mission to eliminate theatrical screenings when people are seemingly immune to cinema's one true power, that of the collective experience. I've seen Ghostbusters a bajillion times but I've never enjoyed it as much as the time I saw it with a sold-out crowd of ~500 people, these things play in different ways when you see them with an audience and even the big screen itself plays a part, you pay attention to different things on-screen and it becomes its own unique presentation.

Now I ain't saying that Friends is high cinematic art but it's such a beloved show that I can believe that fans (there's that strange word again) would pay to see it again in the company of fellow devotees.

Heh, Swedes are so asocial, quiet and reserved in public that seeing something in the theater vs. at home is basically the same as far as the "collective experience" is concerned.

It's doesn't have to be Rocky Horror-style audience participation levels of hootin' and a' hollerin' to make it worthwhile. **** it, I give up.

Relax, Geoffy boy. I wasn't arguing against you, just saw an opportunity for some self-deprecating humor there.

I understand what makes the theatrical experience unique and special, and enjoy it once in a while.

I would be curious to go just because it would be an odd and unique experience to watch a sitcom - that I don't love but can tolerate - on a theater screen. I'm just not going to pay like $10+ for that experience.

I'm also really skeptical of how many people would be in the audience. Fathom events that I've been to for classic movies have already been pretty sparse and I imagine this would draw even less of a crowd. Which makes the idea of them screening a version without a laugh track really, really funny to me. That would be so surreal, and I'd definitely pay to go see that. Because I'm a weirdo.

Also, someone mentioned earlier ideas for other shows for special screenings. If they did this with some eps of The Sopranos, oh gosh I'd be out the door and ready. That would be so great.

I’ve gotten several offers over the last couple of years or so to view the pilot episode of a new show that’s soon premiering. They even offer free popcorn and drinks as an extra incentive. It’s been for both traditional network shows as well as from streaming services.

The last one I can remember was FOX’s ‘The Following’ with Mark Paul Gosselaar. I never attended any of the screenings, but I did get a few mini posters that I stashed with the other movie posters that I frequently get from that same theater.

I don't want it on Blu, because Seinfeld is so popular that it will definitely be cropped for widescreen. Hell, people are already used to seeing it cropped in syndication.

She should have waited until the evening hours and watched her episodes of Friends at the local cineplex like a normal person!
