Friends to Hit Movie Theaters This Fall
Friends is turning 25 this year, and it’s getting one heck of a birthday party. In celebration of the sitcom’s 25th anniversary this fall, 12 fan-favorite episodes will be screened in movie theaters throughout the United States, Warner Bros. and Fathom Events announced Monday. The showings will take place across three nights — Monday, Sept. 23, Saturday, Sept. 28 and Wednesday, Oct. 2 — with four remastered episodes playing on each night. The lineup of episodes is as follows: Monday, Sept. 23: “Pilot,” “The One With the Blackout,” “The One With the Birth,” “The One Where Ross Finds Out” Saturday, Sept. 28: “The One With the Prom Video,” “The One Where No One’s Ready,” “The One With the Morning After,” “The One With the Embryos” Wednesday, Oct. 2: “The One With Chandler in a Box,” “The One With Ross’ Wedding — Part 2,” “The One Where Everyone Finds Out,” “The One Where Ross Got High” “We’re thrilled to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Friends, a TV show that continues to impact culture and attract new fans from across generations,” said Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt. “Fans will have the opportunity to come together and look back on some of the most hilarious and emotional scenes from the acclaimed comedy — this time in theaters.” Each screening will also include exclusive interviews and never-before-seen Friends content. Tickets for Friends 25th: The One With the Anniversary will be available on Fathom Events’ website beginning Friday, Aug. 16, which is also when a complete list of theater locations will be released. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/frien...161027352.html |

Imagine actually paying money to watch a show that's 25 years old on a movie theater screen, blown up to a massive resolution and on a massive screen that's not gonna benefit the show.
Why the hell would anyone even pay for this? I'm not even trying to "troll". This genuinely makes no sense. This show is available to watch on reruns everywhere with antenna TV and on Netflix in HD (despite streaming not looking the best). It's one thing to experience a movie or something of a much bigger budget on the big screen with added theatrical surround immersion and betterbquality than anything else truly giving you an experience. But what the HELL does Friends on a movie theater give you? I'm being genuinely honest, and if someone can tell me and explain I'll gladly change my mind. |

The collective experience of watching the shows with dozens of other like-minded people perhaps? Not all theatrical experiences have to be focussed solely on what technological advancements they bring to the table.

The operative word here is "fan" so I'm not surprised it's baffling you, why would you watch something you don't like in the first place? |

Never felt compelled to watch a single episode of Friends. Definitely won't be going to see it on the big screen.
Shows I probably would see in a theater for an anniversary event: Game of Thrones, The Boys, Space 1999, Battlestar Galactica, 24, The X-Files, Deadwood, The Sopranos. |

I'm not directly comparing these two things, but there's something similar. I had season tickets to University of Michigan football for 5+ seasons. Every game was of course totally sold out, and back when I used to go it was just over 100,000 fans (it's slightly over 110,000 these days). I didn't even GO THERE! ![]() People like enjoying something with other people. And especially with something like "Friends," where everyone has his or her favorite character, relationship, storyline, all of that. At the end of the day, the story here is FUN. If you give people a chance to have FUN, then good on you. Isn't that all entertainment is about anyways? |

I'm not a fan of the show, but I've seen enough episodes and recognize its place in pop culture history. If this plays at my most convenient theater and I can use my subscription to see it, I might do so just for the novelty. I bought the old red complete series collection box set (2006) from a thrift store a few years ago for a couple of bones.
It's also been newly remastered. It's not just the old DVDs being projected on a movie theater screen. |
