I rented the 3D version. I thought the effects were awesome. The PQ isn't top notch. It was a little soft but not that bad. The AQ doesn't make the grade most of the time. The sound was flat and lacking in detail and that goes for the dialogue too. If you haven't already guessed, the audio tracks are lossy Dolby Digital. One thing good about the audio mix is that there is plenty of sound effects coming from the surrounds. I felt immersed in the sound field. The combined effect of the 3D sound field and 3D picture added to the realism. The LFE was rather weak during most of the film except during the T. rex scene. My subwoofer shook the house during that scene. It was a rather fun filled adventure movie in 3D and I couldn't hold back some outbursts of laughter either. The screenplay was rather weak though. The writers took much liberty and departed radically from the Jules Verne novel. I also wrote a user review for the movie. But that's the gist of it. It's definitely worth renting the 3D version. I recommend renting first before buying.

I just finished watching this.
Yeah it's cheesy and lame at times but the 3-D is fantastic!!!
I have never experienced a 3-D home experience that actually wowed me.
It was lots of fun.

Just like "Polar Express 3-D," I would say the novelty of having the film available in both 2-D and 3-D is very cool. Some scenes work truly well and the effects work awesome at times. However, if the 2-D version wasn't also on the disc I wouldn't be that enthusiastic. I still can't imagine sitting through the entire film with those glasses on my face. The cardboard is uncomfortable and it is somewhat easy to lose focus and experience image separation.

I saw the movie in the theatre in 3-D and it is truly, truly an awful film. I have seen many 3-D movies and while this one is far from the worst (Gorilla at Large, anyone?) it is a waste of time even as a 3-D experience. And as a film, it is utterly pointless WITHOUT the 3-D, so I would not bother seeing it on video (even in the anaglyph 3-D version, which is a poor substitute for the digital 3-D version.)

i went online and brought some plastic glasses because the cardboard ones are uncomfortable.

because of the glasses the colors are faded and bleed compared to the theatre version, but the 3d effect translated well.

Saw it in the theatre. It's a "B" movie with a big budget. If like "B" movies and cheese that was meant to be cheese, you will enjoy this.

Were the colors faded with the paper or plastic glasses?? What glasses did you buy, because you need red/green for Journey to the center of the earth. Polar express I believe uses Red/Blue.

it was one of 3d red/blue glasses available on amazon. the comment was the picture is not as colorful as theatre. i did like the movie and enjoy the effects. you are right this movie uses a pink/ green filters; that is too funny.

For the record, I grew up watching the likes of Ray Harryhausen and even the cheesy-but-fun Doug McClure movies from the Sixties and Seventies. So no, I have not been drinking "hatrade." Why does someone who dislikes a movie get automatically attacked by reverse-snobbery?

This version was derivative of all of the old sci-fi/adventure movies with which I grew up, and it added nothing to the table. The script was poor, the acting was poor, the 3-D effects were ham-handed, and it lacked the intangible "fun" quality of the classics that I mentioned. There are myriad better films of its type on which to spend your money.

No. Nightmare is only in 3-D in cinemas with the digital process. Home video is still using the anaglyph(red/blu) process, because the clear lense technology isn't ready yet.

Those who bought the movie, were the glasses red/blue or red/green?

since the box office's take was $100.8 Million, it is very likely there will be an atlantis movie.

i know, but the 3-d presentation in theaters came with 3-d glasses. i was wondering if those glasses would work on journey to the center of the earth or not.

No the glasses from the theatre do not work with the Bluray version, and the provided cardboard ones really suck!!!! The movie looks washed out with zero color quality compared to the theatre, you have this green haze tint thats really distracting....Its just plain Bad!!!!
