Saw the box set in JB today. $99 for the set. Unfortunately no individual releases available. Looks like have to wait a bit longer for those (only interested in Aliens)

OK, I am not really sure what has happened to the individual releases... they are still listed on the FOX site as release date 23rd of Feb, they each have their own APN and SKU and a cost price associated - however they do not appear on any order forms I can find.... I have e-mailed my rep to enquire so will update as I find out.

I was told by a dvd manager from jb on monday, that fox have decided to release the individual case versions only in the new anthology boxset atm. He could be wrong, but considering they are not listed anywhere as being available individually (other than fox's website) then there's probably truth in it. I'm sure it won't be long before they are released separately as that would defeat the purpose of giving each movie it's own case in the 1st place.

Price would have alot do with lack of sales. It's roughly double the price of import prices.

I only really wanted Alien and Aliens, but its easy to buy the Anthology from the UK. You can get it from Amazon for just $44, which would be about the same that you'd be paying for the 2 film's seperately (maybe even less), so just do that guys.

I've been advised the same as what stace5000 said, by a few different jb staff members (not that u can always trust what jb staff members say lol). Which would explain why Australia is one of the 1st countries to get a rerelease of the anthology boxset, with the 4 movies in individual cases. The original Australian anthology boxset which was released only a few months ago looks terrible and is impractical, and apparently sales of the set weren't as high as predicted. The feedback that jb receivered from customers was that they didn't like the design of the set, which had been passed on to fox.

So whats the difference again between the 'individual case box set' and the Anthology set? I wouldn't mind getting the individual cases if they still retain all the same crap.

The downside is that the new release anthology set doesn't come with any special features like the other 1 does. The original release set has an ugly cheap looking plastic face hugger sticking out of the cardboard cover, so it makes it harder to store it in a shelf, where the new one just has 4 blu-ray amaray cases in a box.

Well then, you shouldn't trust what I say then... But it sold particularly well at our store.

There were people who didn't like the design of the set, just as there were people who didn't like the design of the huge ass egg. I for one DID like the design of the original box set, and I don't think it impacts on my storage all that much.

Also as you stated above, they've remove the bonus special features discs for Alien and Aliens.

That's great if it suits your circumstances, but when I bought it it didn't work too well for me and put little dents in the paper insert of the blu-ray that was next to it in my shelf, it was unsuitable so I returned it. The dvd manager at my local jb said last monday he didn't like the old cover either and how it was hard for him to store too.

Now that we know u work for jb hi fi, then maybe u can answer the question as to why there are so many poor employees who are lazy (and can't be bothered to find out what the correct answer to a customers question is) and quite often give out the wrong info to customers in almost every area of the business, from hi equipment-computers? My fiancee has more product knowledge than most employees who work for your company. I'm not saying that u are one of those employees, but to anyone who knows better, they are aware of jb's staff having a poor understanding of most things.

About 18 months ago I witnessed a conversation between a customer and a jb staff member in the games department, the customer was trying to exchange a psp because it had 7 dead pixels and was really distracting to the customer, the jb staff member didn't even seem to understand what pixels are and just told the customer to call sony and they might be able to fix the pixels over the phone or by a software update???

Another thing I witnessed was a customer asking which console to buy, the jb staff member asked if the customer owned an hdtv and the customer said no, then the jb staff member tried to sell a ps3 to the customer based on it being able to do 1080p, when the x360 can too, but that wasn't where I had the problem, what I thought was stupid is how the staff member was trying to sell the console to a person based on a feature the customer didn't require, as he said he didn't own an hdtv, so 1080p becomes irrelevant to that customer.

Another jb staff member told a friend of my fiancee not to buy a blu-ray player because blu-ray is dying, and is going to be taken over by something new in a year or so? obviously he didn't like blu-ray.

Also a while back I herd a jb staff member telling a customer not to buy a ps3 (obviously because they prefer the xbox 360), but this customer told the staff member he already owned an x360 and wanted a ps3 as well, the staff member told the customer some things that were incorrect about the ps3, he ended up talking the customer out of it and lost a sale because of his biased opinion (which I'm sure he was ok with though I'd bet your HO wouldn't be) which is something that happens all to often, where customers are misinformed because of it. Then they go and tell 15 people they know that incorrect info.

I really like going in and testing their product knowledge sometimes, just like the other month, I asked a hi salesperson if there is any visible crosstalk/ghosting with the samsung led 3dtv's, I don't even think he knew what it was and just said there is none.

Some of these things are just basic and everyone who sells these product should know the answers to these questions.

Dude all stores have employees like that, i've never once found a store where the people know anything about what the hell they are selling, its a job that pays for them, nothing more, nothing less. You'r one lucky S.O.B if you get a job that you both enjoy, and have an interest in imo.

I'm not going disagree with u there but imo and others I know, our experiences with jb and their lack of product knowledge is considerable worse than most other retailers who sell the same products, with the exception of Myer and David Jones that is.

And that's cool too! I wasn't saying that people were wrong one way or the other, but there are people who DO like the original version. No matter what anyone does you can't please everyone.

Mate, I just work there. Every store is different, if you think you're going to get wrong information or are getting wrong information then shop somewhere else; that's the point of having a whole load of choice.
