Default CBS' "Limitless" (Season 1)

Quote:
‘Limitless’ TV Sequel Series Lands at CBS, Bradley Cooper, Kurtzman and Orci to Produce

Throw another movie-TV reboot on the fire, albeit one we’ve known to be in the works for some time now. Bradley Cooper‘s 2011 drug thriller ‘Limitless’ has been given a production commitment at CBS for a TV sequel series to the film, with Cooper on board to produce with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and theatrical director Neil Burger on board to direct the pilot.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the proposed ‘Limitless’ series would pick up where the movie left off in following Brian Sinclair as he discovers the power of mysterious intelligence-boosting drug NZT, and is coerced into using his newfound drug-enhanced abilities for good.’Elementary‘ writer Craig Sweeny will pen the script and executive produce alongside Kurtzman and Orci, and a number of others from K/O Paper Products and Relativity, including feature writer Leslie Dixon.

For those unfamiliar with the 2011 film that grossed around $160 million worldwide,, ‘Limitless’ featured Cooper in the role of a struggling writer who undergoes a drug trial that expands his cognitive abilities to using 100% of his brain power, attracting unwanted attention from shadowy forces. The thriller also starred Robert de Niro and Abbie Cornish.

We’ve not heard the last of the TV reboot trend, and though ‘Limitless’ has been in the pipeline far longer than the current crop of adaptations (CBS also has ‘Rush Hour‘ and ‘In Good Company’), development no doubt heated up in the current climate. What do you think? Would you want to follow a sequel series to ‘Limitless,’ even without Bradley Cooper starring?

Big fan of the film and Cooper in general. But Jeezus, is there a headline Orci and Kurtzman won't pop up in?

Marc Webb to Direct the LIMITLESS Pilot for CBS

With the Spider-Man franchise in limbo, director Marc Webb is keeping busy on other projects—including in the realm of television. Last fall he helmed the pilot for a Showtime comedy called Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (which is still in contention at the network), and now Deadline reports that Webb is coming on to take the helm of one of CBS’ most high profile pilots of the season, the Limitless TV show.

The potential series is an adaptation of the 2011 feature film starring Bradley Cooper as a schlub who comes into contact with a drug that increases his brain capacity, allowing him to make gains in nearly every area of his life. The movie was directed by Neil Burger, and while Burger was initially set to helm the TV series pilot, he’s had to pull out due to scheduling reasons—he’s still filming the Showtime pilot Billions and won’t be finished in time.

Burger remains involved in the Limitless series as an executive producer, but now Webb will be taking over as the director. The show revolves around Cooper’s same character from the film, only this time he’s been coerced into solving weekly cases for the FBI (what, you thought CBS wasn’t gonna turn this into a procedural?). Cooper is also involved in the series as an executive producer alongside Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, with Craig Sweeny writing and executive producing.

Webb previously helmed the pilot for Fox’s short-lived Lone Star before Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but he’s also attached to helm the feature film The Only Living Boy in New York starring Miles Teller, which will return him to more dramatic/small-scale territory after two back-to-back Spider-Man films.

As the clock continues to tick and Sony’s plans for the Spider-Man franchise remain unclear, it’s becoming more and more likely that the world of the Amazing Spider-Man reboot is likely over. No matter, Webb’s a gifted filmmaker so I’m eager to see what he tackles after Limitless.

Never heard of it until I saw an ad on my IMDb app. DVR is set.
I really like the premise of the movie. To have full utilization of your brain is an awesome thought.

Is it just me or did Jennifer Carpenter feel out of sync with the rest of the show?

Pretty boring pilot plus it looks like this will be another partner cop show. Will give it another episode before deciding if I am going to drop it.

I was with you until I saw on IMDb she is from Kentucky, so she's back in good graces with me.
I enjoyed the pilot because of the direct tie in to the original film. However, I can see using the drug-enhanced, super smart guy, crime fighter routine getting old real fast.

A lot of reviews are comparing this to Minority Report, not that it's another movie being turned into a TV show, but that it takes a high concept and simplifies it by turning it into a weekly procedural.

I had similar feelings. There seemed to be a lack of confidence in her character for most of the time she was in the episode. It wasn't until she was giving advice over the phone where she seemed confident and believable.

I loved her in Dexter, but it took a couple seasons for me to really 'believe' that she was a cop. It helped, in Dexter, that we saw her journey unfold. In this show, her character is already established yet (at least to me) it seems she's playing an agent who is unsure of herself.

No effing way!!!! For some reason, I thought it had been picked up for a 2nd season already. Didn't they mention something about season 2 at the end of the finale?

Really pisses me off since it was my favorite new show from last season and I felt it was just hitting its stride the last 4 or 5 episodes. CBS really needs to get rid of all these stupid NCIS and CSI franchises that take up so much of their airtime.

8 million viewers is still pretty good, isn't it???? I can't believe they cancelled this brilliant show.

Ya I'm done trying to understand how and why of all of it. There is just too much info we don't have. I don't see many shows getting much more than that consistently at 10pm but what do I know.

And with 8 million viewers per episode I don't understand why Amazon or Netflix didn't pick up the show.
