Even with all its issues Spidey 3 is better than either of the ASM movies. And 1 + 2 are among the best Marvel CBMs we've ever gotten. Hell, among the best CBMs, period.

Yes. Even despite my love of all the X-Men movies and certain MCU movies like Winter Soldier, I think Spider-Man 2 is probably my favorite Marvel brand movie of all.

Spider-Man 3 is better than ASM 1 and 2 combined and I know for damn sure it will be better than Homecoming.

Raimi + Maguire = unbeatable.

I think Homecoming will be better but there aren't a lot of good things to say about the ASMs. I don't expect Homecoming to top 1 and 2 though; frankly I'm not sure those will ever be topped in my mind, largely for the nostalgia but also because they're legitimately amazing CBMs, especially 2.

Spider-Man 2 is fantastic and easily my favorite Spider-Man movie so far but Spider-Man 3 is dead to me. The only redeeming factor about that movie is that James Cromwell and Bryce Dallas Howard were good choices for George and Gwen Stacy. As many problems as the Amazing Spider-Man movies have, Spider-Man 3 still ranks far, far below them. I can still own and watch copies of the two ASM films, the same can't be said of Spider-Man 3 (which I won't even watch when it comes on TV)

While Spider-Man 3 has flaws I find the hate for it really baffling.

It's more that it was such a comedown from Spidey 2, I think. I also reckon it's one of the best CBMs ever made and I've got a LOT of love for the first one too ("go web go!"), but 3 takes on a much goofier tone and it feels like such a mess story-wise, what with the retrofitting of events from Spidey 1 plus throwing all these villains into the mix (Sandman, Goblin, Venom). They made Kirsten Dunst look like a snaggle-toothed crack ***** too, and Geoff don't like that!

It's still fun in its own way but it's really, really not a patch on the other two.

It's not, no, but people treat it like a Quest for Peace or Batman & Robin and it ain't that either. It's a flawed but entertaining 3-stars out of 5 movie, and it has some nice closure for the story you kind of need IMO. Spider-Man 2 ends with cliffhangers, let's not forget.

My biggest issue with the movie is the Sandman stuff honestly, while most people complain about Venom. Sandman gets very little character development outside that one visit to his kid, the retcon of Uncle Ben was terrible and the ending for his character was lame to say the least. Take out Sandman entirely and beef up the Harry and Venom plots a bit and the movie would be drastically improved.

Quest for Peace and Batman & Robin are truly terrible films but they are at least entertaining to watch which is more than I can say for Spider-Man 3 which I think is just bad.

It's funny you should mention the Sandman thing because the retcon is when the film first lost me. I realize they needed a reason for Spider-Man to go after what would have been seen as a flawed but sympathetic character just looking to help his sick daughter but that was ridiculous. I agree about cutting Sandman completely but I'd go one further and cut out Venom as well. Venom should have been a last scene or end credit scene to set him up for the next film. Rushing him in to the film was a waste.

They should have used a lesser known villain at the beginning like Shocker or The Trapster to lead in to finding the symbiote and then have the main plot revolve around Harry. Keep the issues with the symbiote changing Peter but dump some of the more ridiculous stuff like the emo dancing. The Harry storyline gets finished in some way and then you have the set up for the sequel.

I love the emo-Parker dancing stuff. A nerd on evil juice turns into a super douche. It's awesome.

I am a huge fan of long moves, including long CBM movies -- but three CBM movies that needed to be cut down were Hulk 2003, Spider-Man 3 and Amazing Spider-Man 2.

None of them would ever have been the top echelon of CBM movies, but all 3 had a chance to be a lot better cut down. All are well over 2 hours.

Cut the terrible (IMO) daddy stuff down to a minimum in Hulk
Cut out most of the foolishness of SM 3 and
Cut out the Rhino and Kafka completely and trim a lot from Electro and ASM 2 would be watchable for me.

I like SM 3 but it sure didn't need anywhere near that much "funny" stuff.

Other side of the coin -- FF 1 and Daredevil are much better in their extended cuts.

My view of Spidey 3 is forever tainted (in a good way) by how much fun it was seeing it on opening night. I've never been in a crowd like that before, people were whooping and cheering and laughing (even at the bridge scene lol) and having a blast from start to finish. Watching it at home, its flaws become more obvious, but even the finale is a good bit of comic book fun, even if it doesn't make a lick of sense in the end. Even though I wish they'd gone through with Spidey 4, the last shot of 3 is pretty perfect as far as wrapping up that iteration of Spider-Man. As a CBM trilogy it's not as good as Cap but I'd probably put it ahead of Dark Knight only because of how awful Rises is.

Agreed, gentlemen. They had a decent movie there if they decided on using two out of the three villains, but Avi Arad had his way and shoehorned Venom in because of how many toys he sold. True story.

Venom as a solo villain, or one of two villains, is fine. But as an afterthought in the movie's last act... nah. He deserves better. He deserves an R-rated solo feature that will spawn a new shared universe with other baddies.

Even without the retcon, Sandman in general is a ridiculous villain. Spidey has one of the best rogues galleries in all of comic books, and they went with him? Add the retcon on top of that, plus Spidey letting him get away at the end, and just... ugh. Sandman sucks. (Not a criticism of Thomas Haden Church btw, who I think did about as well as could reasonably be expected with that role.)

The only way you make Hulk shorter is to tell a different story. I dunno, I can't think of much in the movie that can be discarded. But I've been defending Hulk for almost 15 years lol

They're not officially announced yet, let alone up for order.
