well i have never been banned from anysite anywhere, but yeah i speak my mind, and im straight to the point, but i only front up to other poster when i know im correct or if its clear they are spreading blatant FUD, if im wrong, you will have an apology.
I have nothing against a supporter of HDDVD, i suppose as i buy the odd title that makes me a supporter as well. I just do not like FUD and thread spoiling. You guys know the drill, a thread goes up for a new BD player, then straight in is a known HDDVD supporter, with "what profile does it support, is it slow load times, what about BD+ spreading computer viruses, what about .........!! They have no intention of buying the product, they have no interest in the product, it is a troll post, end of story. Now if a member came in and said, "guys i like this player but im concerned about the profile issues, and do you think the load time has been improved?" then this guy gets all my time, and i'll happily help him choose the best product or tell him to hold his purchase as what he needs is just around the corner. There, no malice, no FUD, just genuine concern. these people i have time for. Last edited by gandley; 10-16-2007 at 06:49 PM. |

well with Nick posting here with his usual candor, that should make you think somwhat that there are issues in 1-2 sections of AVF that need attention to keep things in order. While Nick was a MOD the AVForum, it had a different take on how they handled policy on the HiDEF Players forum and format war thread, which only changed with blu rays upturn in quality and performence, somthing it now dominates over HDDVD. And by the time the real problems had set in, Nick was no longer modding IIRC sadly this proved to much for some HDDVD supports both noobs and prominent members and the winks about format neutrality of disney and the like were no longer washing as credible facts at that time. Yes some blu members did go too far, there is no doubt, but after taking a barrage of abuse from the HDDVD faithfull they had every right to fire back and beat down some of the crazy FUD and spin that was being pushed as fact. It wasnt so long ago members were claiming that BDs picture quality was rubish campared to HDDVD and on average HDDVD just has the better PQ etc etc, all which were proven quckly to be false. Or how about HDDVD only needs 30GB, for now even paramount to say there is no loseless on transformers because there was not enough space on a 30GB disc for everything to fit, so rather drop a couple of extras they drop the loseless track, WOW. how does that truth hit the HDDVD fans in the guts. the look and sound of this or that. Actually on a personnel level i have no problem with the MODS at AVF on the whole. They are between a rock and a hard place and they ARE a decent set of gents. IAN (always forget his last name) has always been a straight shooter and Scrapbook did good work in the format war thread. Can anyone say with a straight face that 1 of Peckers HDVD predictions came true?? you guys remember the sleeping giant ![]() Last edited by gandley; 10-16-2007 at 06:51 PM. |

ANYHOO, enough of that crap
Terminator 3 Coming to Blu-ray (with PIP) And so it begins...but sadly because of that other format we'll have to put up with more of this for a bit (this has no relation to the above T3 news) "The reason the bitrate got all the way to 6.5Mb/s is because the HD DVD didn't have enough space for IME+TrueHD on a movie longer than about 100-120mins. So they sacrificed bitrate to accomplish the goal." sigh please let the real enthusiast format survive. PS, Seems Warner Bros do prefilter there HDDVD titles to save bit-rate as well, so looks like a few were correct about that (though we thought it was VC-1 doing the softening). I cant believe people want that format to make it, more so as the facts slowly filter out (pun intended). EDIT BAH is a fake effort again. Last edited by gandley; 01-07-2008 at 10:07 PM. |

Firstly, I spotted this thread and thought I would check it out, it seems a few current members/ex members of the UK based AV Forums are taking the opportunity given to them via this forum to air their grumbles, I think this a good idea given that moderation on the AVF is very hard job at the moment and therefore the close thread option seems to be widespread, not really helping free speech although good moderation on forums is a skill that I see very rarely, only the DVD Forums in the UK seems to get the balance right, anyone can be a moderator but very few can actually do the job correctly.
I'm a duel format owner, I purchase both formats (or if lucky get sent them FOC), I have some great titles on both formats and both formats have some substantial issues that need to be ironed pretty quickly before the mainstream masses start to buy in HD Discs. Do I like the speed it takes my HD-A1 to boot up, nope... Am I worried my PS3 won't meet BD profile 1.1, yep.... I'm not sure that AV Forums is pro HD-DVD, its not pro BD and if your stance when looking at yourself is pro BD its not going to be on your level. Have you noticed the Conservatives complain that the BBC is bias in favor of the Labour Party and the Labour Party say the complete opposite, so who is right ? Is it than because the BBC makes comments that neither party are happy with and therefore they play the bias card ? Not everyone is going to be behind BD as much as some forum members here, but that doesn't make them anti BD, it just means they are not as committed ! Retronana (yep the same one from AVF) |

Yeah you make some good points Retro, AVF is certainly not the worst offender when it comes to any bias, and for AVF i dont think it has bias as such, just a few members seem to spout off with no worries even when its blatant trolling, flame bait, like i said it goes both ways but i see blu ray fans suspended, but rarly a HDDVD supporter, even quite possible the worst poster on that forum seems to live a charmed life.

I guess it's hard for those looking from the outside to really understand level of bias on AVF. For example I started a thread about a BD issue and the red ants decended. So I thought why respond, why not use the report button and get their posts removed. What happend, a mod comes along and says 'well if you don't like what people say I might as well delete the whole thread.' And with that the whole thread was gone. Yes I did the reporting and I got the punishment. Was I given the same unbiased protection as the red ants? Was I hell. It's instances like these when you start to loose respect. I would have the highest respect for mods on AVF if everyone was treated equaly, but sadly we were not.
Looking on AVF today and it's quite funny to see the red ants turn on each other when it come to Transformers and True-HD. I don't see a BadAss or Jaguar1977 in sight and the word troll is still hot on everyones lips. As for Profile 1.1, it's taken time but we are about to see 1.1 for the first time and come this time next year, Blu-ray will be commanding a lead on titles that actually use PiP. The wholely grail of HD-DVD is about to be washed away and with Disney pushing interactivity on it's BD titles HD-DVD will fade into the Abyss where it belongs, it's just a shame some of the red ants off AVF can't do the same. It's suggested lack of capacity is the issue, then it's Paramount being lazy, and so on and so forth, anything to defend the lack of TruHD. |
