Regardless of what the packaging says, Umbrella releases are typically region free.

Note unfortunately Australian packaging by law much carry the movie rating.

When talk of this movie floated about with the last blueray release I had heard the original elements were lost to a fire. Sounds like they may have found a good print.
I just saw their ad on FB and came straight here to see if anyone would vouch for Umbrella. Glad to see some have ordered from them without problem. In the FB posts the company has virtually claimed it's a Region Free disc.

But I'm intrigued with them also posting "…yes it's the international cut with violent scenes reinstated". I own the Studio Canal Blu-ray and the insert says it's approximately 95 minutes. The product description on Umbrella's site says it's also 95 minutes. Can anyone here shed any light on that?

I have ordered a few things from them. Reliable company, solid product and good delivery packaging.

One or two things I ordered were spotted in JB HiFI a week before they posted out direct to customers which is a bit of a first world problem gripe but other wise no issue with payment, delivery and quality.

Thanks everyone for highlighting this release. This was my favorite movie as a kid and I still love it. Don't need the replica comic because I own the original lol, but seriously this is a fun package for a movie I can't wait to revisit again (I have the Anchor Bay dvd but never bought a blu).

It is an absolute fav of mine as a kid to. There is just a very lovely charm to it and it is always part of my halloween run every year. Looking forward to this new release.

I went for the new release too. Having Rick Goldschmidt involved means it will be done right, plus Umbrella sent me a discount coupon after registering on their site.

It's possible StudioCanal did a new transfer in recent times since the current master is 1.37 and Umbrella lists a widescreen option. The Daydreamer was another RB Embassy title SC owns and Kino's release of that was an old HD master in 1.37 only.

Oof. There's enough there to get me to probably spring, but it really bothers me it's not just a straight-up 4K release. Is Umbrella like these other boutique's that like to put out a 4k a year after they do a Blu-ray?

There's a $28 version in addition to the $55(!) deluxe edition, ...but shipping is $11. Ouch.

I did not see that earlier, but really a relief because I would just like a standard version. I don't need all those extras, myself.

I just placed my pre-order for the standard edition. Came to $34.20 with a 15% coupon ($4.20) applied for signing up for emails. That helped offset the ridiculous $11 shipping. Big thanks for bringing this release to our attention. I'm guessing it must be a new source, otherwise how would they have the widescreen version? Wasn't the US release just 4:3? Between the color correction and having it in both aspect ratios, this is a pretty cool release. I'm so glad they offered a standard edition (with slipcover) without forcing us to have to go with all the trinkets if we don't want them. I would not have ordered if they only had a $55 edition.

Hopefully this will be an improvement all-around to the existing blu-ray. I actually prefer my old DVD over the current blu-ray due to the colors.

Do we have an actual release day? Wanted to mark it in my calendar and all the site says is May.

I'm debating on this. I have the current blu-ray, but the commentary and color correction may push me over. Doesn't necessarily say 'new' restoration, just new color correction. Definitely agree on the $28 version. As a heads up for everyone, Deep Discount is selling this for $37.75 (just a little more than the $34.20 from Umbrella). I'm in no hurry (don't need it until Halloween, lol), so I may wait for it to be 'in stock' and then see if/when offers a discount code.

Umbrella list the date as May 2023 and Deep Discount is showing June 6 as a release date. If ordering from either, you'd probably get it about the same time, lol.

OrbitDVD says May 23rd, but I don't know if that's just the import release or the actual Aus street date. The database says May 3rd, but not sure if that's based on something official.

Like with Invaders from Mars, am keeping an eye on when Mad Monster Party will be available to get (I know you can pre-order/order it directly from Umbrella Entertainment). After checking it out, following being told about it by a friend (genuinely had never heard of it before), I do like this type of animation, so I'm definitely interested in getting it (depending though on comments/observations about the transfer etc. by members here).

I grew up knowing this over their Christmas stuff and now I always love telling the masses who are still unaware of this gem about it.

I usually use Deep Discount for my Umbrella ordering; especially when there's a DD 10-15% coupon!

Umbrella says the $55 one is sold out on their site.

I attended a show in person and Rick Goldschmidt did a Q/A after showing the movie. He did not recommend thde US Bluray because it was an older transfer and money grab.

He did recommend the Anchor Bay DVD.

He also eluded that if he doesn't get involved with any Rankin/Bass releases he doesn't like. So obviously he likes this one.
