Honestly, I'm hoping for the former. As a huge Linklater fan, I personally was massively let down by Boyhood. And God, I wanted to love that film. I would like to see Criterion include at least the Jesse and Celine scene from Waking Life in a Before Trilogy set, though. I do feel like that's relevant in some way.

I had previously seen rumors about this set being a November release, but will not complain if it ends up being sooner

Did anyone catch Linklater on Conan last night? I'm wondering if he was asked about the Criterion Before Trilogy at all...

Do you really expect that to come up on a fluffy comedy show? Would be nice, but I'd be shocked if it did.

You'd be surprised that late night talk shows hold all the secrets to future Criterion releases. I'm getting very close to cracking the code...

Conan brought out Jon Mulvaney as a surprise guest and he had the Before box set trilogy in his hands and presented it to Linklater. And Conan tried to grab it, but Mulvaney made a large howl and Conan backed away, and then Andy licked the box. They then spent 75 minutes breaking down the extras. Conan asked if he could visit Criterion's closet full of movies, and Andy said "Haven't you been in enough closets?" And everyone laughed.

Christ, guys, it was just a question. No need to pounce on my (apparent) abject stupidity for foolishly hoping that it *might* come up. I mean geez, sorry.

I kid because I also want everything in popular culture to relate back to Criterion in some way.

This won't happen. But Criterion could release Waking Life, following in Arrow's footsteps.

Waking Life has been on my wish list ever since the format was introduced. I've had the DVD since it was first released, and it gets a spin at least once a year. It looks like Arrow managed to retain most, if not all, of the DVD bonus features as well. I would LOVE if Criterion found a way to release this on blu.

Ditto. I can't wait to re-watch all 3 films in glorious Criterion restoration quality.

Not that we need much more spurious "it's gonna happen" talk, but Linklater talks about it at around 6:30 in this great Q&A video.

I love his line about Criterion being a "great final resting place" for films, and if you don't want to watch it he says "they're putting out both the Before Trilogy and Boyhood... it's in the works, so it's always great to work with them."

This is probably the only thing I'd literally be fine with paying over the odds for and ponying up for the import fees as well without hesitation.

Hrm. I guess that means if we're interested in the film, we should probably buy the Arrow version of Waking Life without worrying about an impending Criterion version.

Awesome. Can't wait. I still haven't watched the third movie, which has been on my shelf for years now.
I gotta sell that one then.

The placement of the 3 clumps also also screams YES. Low, up, low. Rise, set, midnight. 12 bees, december 12th month? Fingers crossed.

I just came here to post that clue!

'bee-four'...there're also a three groups of bees resembling a trilogy. Can't wait! We all knew it's coming but sooner is better than later

Too bad Criterion hasn't jumped into the UHD Blu-ray business. These would look great given the supposed 4k transfers of the first two, plus the previous 4k Sony transfer of the third installment.
