Default Widescreen movies; risk of burn-in on my plasma?

hi, i have a 42in samsung plasma television, a 2006 model. and i've watched some widescreen movies before on it and it still works great but i'm afraid if i keep watching it all the time, it will give burn-ins or it will darken the bottom and top of my tv, will this happen? or is it okay to watch movies with bars on top and bottom all the time on my plasma?

also when i zoom in to watch the movies, will the picture be spread out and i will lose quality? or can i zoom in to cover the bars and the picture will still be perfectly sharp as it is?

Movies are dynamic and the colors change frequently enough. Burn-in only happens when a light area appears constantly on the screen, and it takes years, not hours. Don't worry about burn in unless you use your plasma as a computer monitor.

Newer plasmas have some burn-in protection and thus a lower chance of burn-in than older ones. Still high contrast setting is the major factor for burn-in. If you have or can borrow a calibration disk use it to adjust your picture, else set the contrast (A.K.A. Picture) as low as you can and still have good picture. You also want to watch full screen material a majority of the time. With widescreen material the black bars will not burn-in as such but that area will not wear at the same rate as the rest of the screen.

I assume you watch HD channels using this TV, like local news or Lost in HD. So why worry?

Go to your cable company's website and look at your package and the HD package.

If you're in the States, basic cable would get you HD channels of broadcast stations (NBC, CBS) but it'll be on a different channel number than the SD channels.

The best thing to do is make sure you don't watch all scope movies. Vary your aspect ratios.
