Default PS3 Onkyo 605 uncompressed audio issue

Hey Guys,

So i got the 605 and hooked up my 5.1 set up to it. I have an hdmi 1.3 cable (Monster 400m) running from the ps3 to the receiver. If i have the audio track set at dolby digital all 5 speakers plus the sub play. If i chose the uncompressed audio track on any Blu-ray movie only the front, center and sub have audio. The rear speakers emmet nothing. Any ideas?

Any ideas what is going on? I've switched the ps3 to bitstream to that the receiver handles all the decoding.

Are you sure what you are listening to has audio in the rear channels.? The rears aren't always in use. Plus the 605 doesn't apply any processing(like DPLIIx) to the 5.1 pcm signal like the higher end Onkyos can.

Check the audio output settings for the PS3. If you previously had it hooked to your receiver via optical out, then the output settings probably only included PCM 2-channel (and dolby digital and such), and PCM 5.1 and 7.1 are proably unselected.

So, check your audio output settings, step by step.

Default I'll try all of those when I get home tonight

I remember upon setting up the receiver telling the ps3 that audio was going through hdmi now and it listed all of the different codecs i could use.

However I have the ps3 now set to bitstream so i will move it back to LPCM?

Andrew

Thanks again!

You have to switch it to linear pcm otherwise you won't be getting uncompressed audio, just a 2 channel mix through bitstream and your receiver will probably be playing it out in 4 channels
