Default No HD audio with STR-DA2400ES

I have a problem with my STR-DA2400ES.

I have a BDP-350 connected via the BD HDMI input. The player is set to 'DIRECT'. The problem I have is more often than not I'm not getting HD audio (DTS Master or True HD). All other audio (DD, DTS etc) is fine.

I'm certain it's not a problem with my player, I've tried another 350 through it aswell as a PS3 and a Panasonic BD-55 and the problem is the same.

Sometimes I can turn the receiver on and it's fine, the next day I can turn it on and the HD audio has gone again. Sometimes turning the amp off and on solves the problem. Sometimes just going into the GUI (not changing any settings) and coming out of the GUI will solve it. Even skipping a chapter sometimes works.

I've taken it in for repair at an authorised SONY specialist, but they said they found nothing wrong with it (although I did have trouble making them understand the difference between the HD audio and Digital audio.

Maybe there's something I'm missing in the set up menus, but the fact that it does sometimes work makes me believe I have it set up fine.

Has anyone had a similar experience or any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks

That was my first thought, I've tried 3 different cables - same problem.

When watching a movie, make sure you select DDTHD or DTSHD from the movie menu, press the amp button at the top of the remote and then display button near the directional circle, and cycle through the data on the amps screen... what does it say?

Can you return the receiver for a different 2400? or have you had it for a while? If you have had it for a while has the issue always been there?

If you set the BDP up for PCM output does the receiver play LPCM without an issue?

Are selecting the HD audio from the movies Menu screen?

Have you tried plugging into a different HDMI input on the back of the receiver, Like the DVD, or Cable input, is there still the same problem?

Hmmm.... Since you stated that you also get the problem showing up randomly, I have to wonder if there is a faulty HDMI connector on either your player or receiver. Maybe just a really dirty connector? There are 19 connections with HDMI, and the contact points are small. But then again, you have solved the problem, at least temporarily, by navigating the receiver's menu.

I'm not sure if there's a way you can "clear" your Sony receiver's settings are return the unit to factory default settings. Since you've taken it in for a look, you've obviously unplugged it from the wall for long enough for a sufficient cold "restart."
