Default Sony STR-DA2400ES Receiver Thread

Sony STR-DA2400ES

All i can see, (based on specs) above the STR-DG920, is Sirius and RS-232 and a secondary remote control. Sirius and XM will be the same soon anyway.

Actually, they annouced three new ES receivers.

Sony STR-DA2400ES ($800, July 2008): The entry-level ES receiver boasts 100 watts per channel, four HDMI inputs, and what Sony calls a "basic icon-driven graphical interface."

Sony STR-DA3400ES ($1,000, August 2008): The middle model of the trio improves upon its little brother with a 12-volt trigger, IR repeater, and composite video output to a second zone. Sony's info isn't specific, but it appears that this model and its step-up (below) will both feature the more familiar Cross Media Bar-style (XMB) graphical interface similar to that found on the PSP, PS3, and newer Sony TVs.

Sony STR-DA4400ES ($1,500, August 2008): The crown jewel in the new ES line is a 120 watt model that features six HDMI inputs, 3-zone audio, and HD video output to a second zone. It also will offer picture-in-picture functionality, so you can watch two video sources simultaneously.

Just checking in.....How are things going with the 2400ES?? What happened with your picture quality - still dark?? Was your 3300ES one of the models purchased after or before the update that was required to fix the video issue on their early run??

Anyone notice how spec wise the 2400ES and the DG920 are pretty close. The 920 has a higher overall power rating, but thats with a 1.0 THD rating as opposed to a .09 on the 2400ES. But the 2400 only weighs a few more pounds than the DG920.

This is kind of nit picky, but I am looking over the specs right now on the Sony Style site and for the 4400ES no where in the specs does it specifically say internal audio decoding for Dolby True HD nor DTS HD MA. Wonder what else on their is missing or inaccurate

For the 2400ES it does explicitly state the above codecs along with several others as well in the specs section that the 4400ES is missing.

Yes Sony seem to under quote their specs on their websites.... I have never found them to put things it doesn't have, just leave off things they do have. The Sony's seem to do everything 1080/24p and all the sound formats. STR-DG920 upwards do up-conversions.

Question SONY ES STR-DA2400ES Experiences?

Hi Everyone

Does anyone own this receiver? If so what do you think of the sound quality and features. I currently own a SONY STR-DA2000ES receiver, which has standard Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, and DTS surround audio. It does not have HDMI inputs, but the sound quality is superb. Although it does have some issues with the new surround codecs at times. So I am thinking about upgrading to a new ES model with the new codecs. I've always loved the build and quality of the ES line. Thanks.

I don't of anyone that has one on here, you can try the AVS forums, I and many others have the Sony 920 which has the same sound specs as the 2400ES 100W 20Hz-20kHz .09% THD, don't know for sure if they sound the same though. As for the 920, it sounds awesome. Knowing how Sony works, I would say that the only advantage is of the 2400 is the pre/pro and the rs232 input and maybe a few other "features."

I find the ES models to have a solid build and sound. Although the 920 does sound intriguing. Ironically my first receiver was Model# STR-AV920 which I bought back in 1991. That receiver never gave me an ounce of trouble. I'm might just upgrade to the 3400ES.... EBAY has some great deals going on that model and the price difference between that and the 2400ES is very small.

I have the 3300ES I baught last april/may of last year on clearance for around $580. It doesn't decode any codecs but I have a PS3 anyway which can't bitstream codecs, so the playstation decodes for me.

I think the receiver is great and I know of another member on another forum with and ES, Denon, Yamaha, and Onkyo which claims these receivers sound every bit as good as the denon and the such. The denon he has is a 2808ci. Which was a model I was looking at but could only afford the ES at the time.

The ES receivers are very nice..
